How to close all open sessions on WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp Web allows us to have conversations through the web browser, as long as the mobile is on. Now we are going to indicate the way to close the sessions opened from WhatsApp Web , in case we leave it started on a computer that is not ours.

We have already explained how to know if we have WhatsApp open in another location , and now we have to take action if we find any access that we do not identify. Open sessions on other computers are a serious security problem , as they could eavesdrop on conversations through them.

If we have connected from a public computer, loaned by an acquaintance or we have sold ours , these steps will help us to maintain our privacy. We will see the two available options, which are to use the application for smartphones or WhatsApp Web itself.

How to remove WhatsApp completely

Regarding the application for Windows and Mac, it is practically identical to WhatsApp Web, so all these steps are applicable in the same way.

Log out of the mobile app

At least as long as the multi-device support of WhatsApp is not finalized , the account depends on the mobile in which we register it. Therefore, in the application for Android or iPhone it lets us close all other open sessions:

  • From the “Chats” tab, click on the three-dot icon in the upper right area to open the menu:
  • Let’s go to the “WhatsApp Web” option from the drop-down:
  • We appear all sessions initiated , either by WhatsApp Web browser or Windows / Mac application:
  • We can individually close each session, or click on “Close all sessions” , after which we can only confirm:
  • On the other hand, if there were no open sessions, the WhatsApp camera would be opened to read the QR with which to identify itself in the browser:
  • After these steps, the sessions will be closed, and only the one on the mobile where we use WhatsApp will remain, which can only be one at a time.

Close the session in WhatsApp Web itself

Another possibility is to close the WhatsApp Web sessions every time we finish chatting , something especially important if it is a public computer that someone else could use later.

The steps are simple, and are performed directly from the WhatsApp Web interface in the browser:

  • At the top of the list of conversations we look for a three-point icon and click on it to display the menu:
  • Now we go to the “Close session” option and click:
  • The next time we open WhatsApp Web we can look at the possibility of unchecking the “Keep session active” box :
  • In this way we will not have to manually close the WhatsApp Web sessions, a few minutes after we stop using it it will close itself , and we will need to scan the QR code again with the mobile to enter.

In fact, one of the basic measures when it comes to protecting WhatsApp so that they cannot spy on us is to check that there are no open sessions in any web browser.

Our advice is to periodically close all WhatsApp Web sessions , in case we are left open due to a mistake on a computer, and someone could enter.
