HOW TO CLEAN THE PARQUET AND MAKE IT SHINE

Parquet floors help to create a very warm atmosphere in a house, but there is no doubt that their maintenance also requires more effort and care than any other type of floor. To help you in the mission of taking care of your wooden floor , today we explain how to clean the parquet and make it shine.

The first thing to keep in mind is that before using a special wood floor cleaner , it is important to follow the instructions on the label and carry out a test on an inconspicuous strip of the floor. This is so because wood is very sensitive to humidity, some chemical compounds and even cloths, since they can alter the state of the soil.

Once you have chosen the product that best suits you, dissolve a small amount in a bucket of clean water. With a well wrung mop , or with a cotton cloth, lightly wipe the entire surface, removing any traces of dirt. Then dry with another clean, soft and dry cloth so that no trace of moisture remains.

If after cleaning it, you want your parquet to shine, try using a wooden floor polish . Without a doubt, it is the most laborious part of the process of cleaning the parquet, since it involves rubbing the floor until you get a shine. However, you do not need to use this product every time you clean the floor, but every so often.

However, if you prefer not to use chemical compounds to clean your wooden floor, have you tried making your own homemade floor cleaner?

How to make homemade floor cleaner?

To make a homemade floor cleaner you will need some essential oil, vinegar and soap, or bicarbonate, mix it with water, and apply it gently.

  • With essential oils: it is about adding 10 drops of an essential oil, the one you like the most, each, 4 liters of water. Essential oils exert a natural disinfecting power and leave a pleasant scent on floors and rooms. You can choose from the essential oils of lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, lemon, and pine.
  • With vinegar and soap: you can also clean the parquet or wooden floor with vinegar and soap. To do this, pour 50 milliliters of white vinegar and a tablespoon of powdered soap in 4 liters of water. Use warm water and mix the ingredients well so the soap dissolves. Remember to always wring out the cloth as much as possible before wiping it on the floor.
  • Baking soda for streaks: if you have to remove any marks or lines, it is best to use baking soda. Sprinkle the critical points with this product and sprinkle a solution of water and vinegar over them in equal parts. The amount depends on the size of the areas to be treated. Leave on lightly and clean with a cloth or sponge until the marks are removed.
  • And to remove the remains of wax, it is best to use small amounts of food alcohol. Pass it through the remains of wax with a cloth, until its complete elimination. Alcohol replaces more aggressive industrial solvents.

And its maintenance?

The maintenance of the wooden floor is complicated. For proper maintenance it is important to take care of it and take into account the following details:

  • Never drag chairs or other furniture over the wooden or parquet floor that could scratch it.
  • When cleaning dust, instead of using a broom, it is best to vacuum with a soft bristle brush.
  • Make sure that there is no humidity, as this causes damage such as the lifting of the slats. For this reason, when cleaning parquet floors, you should always avoid using plenty of water.
  • It is also advisable to avoid direct exposure of the parquet to the sun’s rays.

And now that you know the best ways to clean parquet, discover how to polish wooden floors .
