Earlier we saw how television audience is measured and we found that the main factor that determines the most watched programs are the audimeters. We talk that they are devices that report the consumption habits of the people who have them and that there are 4,500 distributed throughout the homes of our country. Today we are going to detail how an audimeter works and what users who use it and therefore configure our TV grill have to do.
What are audimeters?
These are devices that record the television programs that are watched by members of the household who have agreed to have it in their home. The appearance would be similar to the DTT devices that we had to have (and some still use) in Spain. However, the main tool of the audimeter is the remote control since each member has an assigned button and when pressed each guest registers to know what they are going to see (since this member has a certain profile different from the rest of the family) .
What do they get in return?
One of the most frequently asked questions when talking about audimeters is if the households that use them receive something in return. Economically not, however they are compensated with accumulation of points that can be exchanged for gifts . All this makes it a somewhat questionable metric in terms of the reliability of the results, since it is very easy to vary the data (leaving the television without anyone watching, including family members who are not present at the time …) The television grill It totally depends on the use that these families make of these devices.
Another problem with audimeters is that they only measure TV linearly, and the viewing of those same television programs that take place on other platforms is not taken into account. As we saw previously, it is being studied how to modify the ways of measuring this medium so that it is more in line with the reality of the spectators.
