Request and portability
The migration process from my old operator to iliad was simple and fast, I did everything from the iliad web portal and after 3 days the new sim was in my home, after another two days the portability was completed and the sim ready for the use.
Once the sim was activated and the number portability was completed, I had to configure some parameters of my iPhone to make the 4g data line and the use of MMS fully functional.

How to configure iliad sim on iPhone
The configuration of the iliad sim on iPhone is quick and easy, just access the Settings menu
- Mobile phone
- Cellular Data Options
Check that the ” Voice and Data ” section is set to 4G (or LTE)
Otherwise, access the menu item and set it to 4G
Go then to the menu ” Data Network Mobile ”
and configure the following items (pay attention to the lower case)
- cellular / APN data : iliad
- MMS / APN : iliad
- MMS / MMSC : http://mms.iliad.it
- MMS / Maximum MMS size : 200000
- Personal Hotspot / APN : iliad

Doesn’t the internet work on your iPhone?
After configuring my iPhone I surfed without problems for about a week, then the navigation was abruptly stopped and I received the following message:
“Cannot activate cellular data network”
” You are not subscribed to any cellular data service ”
There was no longer any way to navigate, so I called customer service at 177 and a very kind operator told me not to worry, which is a known problem and is only related to iPhones. It is solved by setting a simple manual configuration.
If you too have to solve the problem ” You are not subscribed to any cellular data service ” then follow this simple procedure.
First, access ” Settings” and then select ” Manager “, remove the check mark on ” Automatic ”
A series of apn will appear, select the second iliad from the menu, as shown in the image (please, the second):
At this point you will have to wait a few minutes, then a message similar to this will appear:
Click on ” OK ” and restart your phone, the configuration is now complete and navigation should be reactivated in a few minutes.

Some data on 4G connectivity
As soon as the SIM was installed and configured, I started browsing in LTE , only after about a week did the navigation automatically switch to 4G . Do not ask me why, even I could not understand why the LTE voice disappeared only after a week and I switched to 4G. Maybe it just depended on the settings I set and their propagation.

As for the speed data, for the moment I can’t complain, the speed has always been excellent and the cellular reception good.

Is the iliad IP address French?
As soon as the iliad offer came out and after the first tests carried out by the various Italian tech bloggers , it seemed that the dynamic ip address provided by iliad was always a French IP (and I have no reason to doubt it). This had made many people turn up their noses, including myself.
Now I have verified myself the IP that was assigned to me and it would not seem to be French, the IP is the following 37.162.79.138 and it is from the Milan area , this is the detail of the GeoIP in json:

Conclusions
After about a week of use and testing of the sim iliad I noticed how well the major residential areas are covered. I found some small problems, especially with the data network, in the peripheral areas (by the sea to be clear) but not always, only on peak days (eg Saturday and Sunday afternoon).
In these particular days it would seem that iliad (but I found the same thing with a sim three) cuts connectivity, bringing navigation from 4G to 3G with a drastic reduction in browsing speed, perhaps due to the excessive presence of people . The situation returns to normal in the evening or the following morning.
Another thing that I have not been able to explain is the automatic LTE / 4G switch which occurred after a few days of use, but maybe you will be able to answer this question .
For the rest I am (moderately) satisfied, let’s see how assistance will go when it is needed and we continue to monitor the speed!
