Gotham Knights – Technical Problem Solving

Error 0x887A0005, game crashes, freezes at startup, black screen and more

A new game in the Batman universe, many were looking forward to. Unfortunately, Gotham Knights turned out to be imperfect , both in terms of game design and technical aspects. The game’s graphics are not well developed, and nightly adventures in Gotham mired in crime are often interrupted by bugs or slow performance. In this article, we have collected the most common technical problems with the game and provided proven solutions for them.

What kind of computer is needed for Gotham Knights (system requirements)

The game can parallelize calculations on 16 processor threads, using 12 of them as efficiently as possible. It also requires high frequency per core and high IPS (performance per clock). Therefore, for stable frame rates, we recommend an Intel Core i5 9th generation or later or Ryzen 5 3rd generation or later. In addition, for a comfortable game at maximum settings, even for the classic 1080p (1920×1080) resolution, a GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 590 video card is required.

As for the official system requirements, they are only for playing without ray tracing at 1080p (1920×1080) and 1440p (2560×1440) resolutions. We’ve reviewed independent Gotham Knights benchmarks and added recommendations for playing in 2K (2560×1440) and 4K (3840×2160) with ray tracing.

Minimum system requirements (1080p @ 60 FPS, high preset):

How Gotham Knights works on GeForce GTX 1060 – the most popular graphics card among Steam users

Computer to play 1440p @ 60 FPS with ray tracing (tested):

• Operating system:Windows 10 x64 / 11 x64.
• Processor:Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 5 5600X.
• Video card:NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT.
• RAM:16 gigabytes.

Computer to play 4K @ 60 FPS with ray tracing (tested):

• Operating system:Windows 10 x64 / 11 x64.
• Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 5 5600X.
• Video card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 / AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT.
• RAM: 16 gigabytes.

Gotham Knights won’t launch on Windows 7

The game is not designed to run on Microsoft operating systems older than Windows 10.

If you have Windows 10 , and the game still does not start, then try installing all the latest updates.

Game crashes without error / black screen on startup

1. Restart your computer.
2. If the first did not help, then check the integrity of the game files:
3. start Steam;
4. go to the “Library” section;
5. right- click onthe name of the game ( Gotham Knights ) in the list on the left and open the properties;
6. in the “Local files” tab, click “Verify integrity of game files”;
7. wait for the process to complete.

Gotham Knights crashes with error 0x0c000142 / 0x0c000005

Run Windows System File Checker. To do this, press the keyboard shortcut Windows + R , and then in the window that opens, type “sfc /scannow” (without quotes). After the check is complete, restart your computer.

Error 0xc000007b

Reinstall or update NVIDIA drivers. It is advisable to do a clean install to reset unsuccessful settings.

Error 0x887A0005

Disable ray tracing in graphics settings. If the game does not start, then you can set the performance preset through GeForce Experience – this will disable ray tracing.

Error 3:0000065432

Uninstall Razer software if available. If you do not have it installed, then try disabling MSI Afterburner or antivirus .

“Out of memory” error in Gotham Knights

Your PC is running out of RAM. The best solution is to increase the amount of RAM to at least 8 gigabytes. Increasing the swap file probably won’t help. Also, be sure to close your browser before launching any game. Especially if it has a large number of open tabs.

Co-op (co-op mode) does not work / can not play with a friend

This is a day one bug that should have been fixed by now. But if it still occurs, then here are a few possible solutions:

1. Both players need to update the game to the latest version.
2. If this does not help, you can remove the player from friends and add again.
3. Also, similar problems can occur if you play on different platforms.

The resolution does not change in the game / the image goes beyond the screen

This problem can occur if screen scaling is enabled in Windows. You can compensate for this in the following way:

1. Find the GothamKnights-Win64-Shipping.exefile in the game folder.
2. Go to properties and go to the “Compatibility” tab.
3. Click the “Change high DPI settings” button.
4. In the “Override scaling mode…” option, select “Application”.

Gotham Knights slows down / lags / optimization problems / graphical artifacts / CPU usage at 100% / GPU usage at 80% or less

Update your video card drivers

This will help the graphics card work more efficiently with the new game. To update drivers, visit the graphics card manufacturer’s website:

• NVIDIA GeForce: The site will select the appropriate drivers for you. Just click “Search” and then “Download Now”. After the download is complete, run the downloaded file and follow the instructions in the installer.
• AMD Radeon: Scroll down to Search for your product and select your graphics card under Graphics . Click the Submit button. On the page that opens, click LMB on your version of Windows and click “Download”. Once the download is complete, run the downloaded file and follow the instructions in the installer.

Important: Be sure to restart your computer after updating your drivers.

Turn on high performance for graphics card

For NVIDIA GeForce owners:

1. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel by right-clicking onthe desktop.
2. Select Manage 3D Settings from the list on the left.
3. Switch to the “Program settings” tab in the main part of the screen and select Gotham Knightsfrom the drop-down list under “1. Select a program to configure “(if the game is not in the list, then add the appropriate button next to it).
4. In the list below, find the “Power Management Mode” feature and toggle it to “Preferred Maximum Performance Mode”.

For owners of AMD Radeon and AMD processors:

1. Open Radeon Settings by right-clicking onthe desktop.
2. Go to the “System” section.
3. In the “Switchable Graphics” category, set the graphics card with “maximum performance” as the main one.
4. Click Accept.

Disable upscaling

This will reduce performance, but will get rid of possible graphical artifacts.

Launch the game in DirectX 11 mode

Add “-force-d3d11” (without quotes) to your launch options. This can be done in the shortcut properties or in the game settings through the Steam library.

Reduce draw distance and traffic density

These are the most demanding graphics options in the game. Read more about setting other options below.

How to adjust the graphics in Gotham Knights for a weak PC / how to increase FPS (frame rate)

Optimal settings for a weak PC , close to the minimum system requirements:

• Display Mode (screen mode):Borderless (full screen without frame).
• Select Display:Your main monitor.
• Select GPU:The most powerful graphics card in the system (NOT the integrated graphics core).
• Resolution:The native resolution of your display (1920×1080 / 2560×1440 / 3840×2160, etc.).
• VSYNC (vertical sync):Off (disable).
• Dynamic Resolution (dynamic resolution):Off (disable).
• Max FPS Limit (max frame rate):
• Upscaling Type (upscaling method):FSR 2.0 / DLSS.
• Upscaling Quality:Quality (quality mode).
• Sharpening Level (sharpness):
• Field of View (viewing angle):
• Ray Tracing (ray tracing):Off (disable).
• Motion blur (blur in motion):Off (disable).
• Ambient Occlusion (obstruction of ambient light):On (enable).

Game not saving / error 0xc0000142

Check if there are any Russian letters in the path to the GothamKnights-Win64-Shipping.exe file . You can quickly find the file through the “Search” in the explorer.

Where are the Gotham Knights saves?

In the following folder: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\WB Games\Gotham Knights\Steam\Saved\SaveGames\ProfileNumber

Sound problems in the game

1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
2. Go to the Hardware and Sound section.
3. Open sound settings.
4. Select the default device (there should be a green check next to it) and go to its properties using the button below.
5. In the “Advanced” tab, select the default format “24 bit, 48000 Hz”.
6. If it doesn’t help, then lower it to “16 bits, 44100 Hz”.
7. If this does not help, then run the “Sound Troubleshooter” by right-clicking onthe volume icon in the lower right corner of the desktop. Follow the instructions of the program.

Game freezes / DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error / black screen

Perhaps the problem is overheating of the video card:

1. Check if the fans of her cooling system are blocked by adjacent wires.
2. If everything is in order with the first one, then try to reset the overclocking: go to the MSI Afterburnerapplication and press the Reset button (if such a program is not installed, then the video card most likely did not overclock).

Gamepad (joystick) not working in Gotham Knights

1. Delete the device in the “Device Manager” and restart the computer.
2. If this does not help, then run the controller setup in Steamand manually set the Xbox Controller mode .
3. If this does not help, then try connecting the gamepad via wire.
