Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection graphics settings

How to get a stable 60 FPS in Nathan Drake and Chloe Fraser’s latest adventures re-release for PC

For a long time, Uncharted 4 has been one of the most graphic action adventure games on the PlayStation. Its status was cemented by a PS5 re-release earlier this year. But on October 19, the Quartet, along with a spin-off about Nathan Drake’s girlfriend, was ported to the PC for some reason. In games, it’s true that the plot is completely independent, but it’s still advisable to first familiarize yourself with the history of the original trilogy.

And since we are here today, we will try to figure out the performance of the graphics of the PC version of Uncharted 4 and the standalone add-on The Lost Legacy . In this guide, we will first determine the current system requirements for different resolutions, and then we will go through the graphics options in the game and try to understand which ones can be reduced without significantly damaging the picture.

What kind of computer is needed for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (system requirements)

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection has 4 official system requirements at once. We studied the tests of the game on different hardware at different resolutions and came to the conclusion that they are pretty close to the truth.

Minimum system requirements (720p @ 30 FPS, medium preset):

  • Operating system:Windows 10 (64-bit only!).
  • Processor:Intel Core i5-4330 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200.
  • Video card:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 / AMD Radeon R9 290X.
  • RAM:8 gigabytes.

Recommended system requirements (1080p @ 30 FPS, high preset):

  • Operating system:Windows 10 x64.
  • Processor:Intel Core i7-4770 / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X.
  • Video card:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon RX 570.

Graphics settings in Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection / how to increase FPS (frame rate) in the game

Comparison of different graphic presets and other settings in the game

Next, we will analyze in detail all the graphic settings of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.

Testing was conducted on a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card in conjunction with a Core i5-10400F processor, the game was installed on an SSD.

  • “Video mode”. It is usually better to choose full screen mode for maximum performance, but the game only has windowed full screen without a border. Outwardly, it does not differ from full-screen and allows you to easily move the mouse cursor between two monitors (may be useful for streamers).
  • “Screen resolution”. Set native for your monitor or TV. In the first case, this is most often 1920×1080 or 2560×1440. And in the second – 3840×2160 (modern 4K TV) or 1920×1080 (old Full HD TV).
  • “Rendering Resolution”. Here, a lower resolution is set to draw the graphics (render) itself, without affecting the interfaces, which will preserve their clarity. But this can only be done through FSR or DLSS upscaling quality presets. We’ll talk about them below.
  • “Aspect Ratio”. Leave the option “Auto” if you do not know the exact format of your screen. Otherwise, you can confuse, for example, 16:9 with 16:10.
  • AMD FSR 2.The second version of AMD’s upscaling is not as bad in picture quality as the first, but does not increase performance as much as DLSS. However, the latter has more graphical artifacts like trails behind moving birds and some particle effects. The “Quality” mode is not very different from the native resolution. You can turn it on if you don’t have a GeForce RTX graphics card.
  • Slightly better in picture quality than FSR and gives more FPS boost, but not as stable in some cases (same loops mentioned above). And besides, it is only available on GeForce RTX video cards. But even if you have a similar video card, FSR in Quality mode will be preferable, as it has fewer graphical artifacts. Or don’t use upscaling at all.
  • “Visualization Scale”. It is better to enable the same FSR in the “Quality” mode than to reduce the render resolution manually. Leave it at 100 percent here.
  • “Vert. synchronization”. It should only be turned on if tearing appears on the screen, since the smoothed frame time leads to an increase in input lag. We wrote more about the features of vertical synchronization in a separate article.
  • “Fix 30 fps”. A good alternative to vertical sync that makes footage smoother without increasing input lag. But for some, playing at 30 FPS may seem too “viscous”, especially during gunfights.
  • “Textures”. The average quality of the textures roughly corresponds to the sharpness of the surfaces on the PlayStation 4 – it looks good if you do not look closely. Choose it if you have no more than 4 gigabytes of video memory. And if more, then set it to high – there is almost no difference with ultra-quality, and video memory is required by as much as 2 gigabytes less.
  • Model quality. Choose between standard models on PS4 or customized versions for PS5. This primarily applies to dynamic objects: characters, vehicles, weapons, and some others. The difference in detailing is noticeable only in close-ups, so you can safely choose standard models – the FPS will also increase slightly!
  • “Anisotropic Filtering”. Judging by the description, this parameter was combined with anti-aliasing. And judging by the impact on performance – the way it is. Medium quality looks good and releases 5 to 10 percent of frames per second. We recommend him.
  • “Shadows”. Here you can adjust the resolution of the shadow maps. This is more of a load on video memory than on the graphics core. Set it to medium if you’re playing on a 4 GB or less graphics card. And if you have more memory, you can increase it.
  • “Reflections”. Image resolution in water reflections. The main load goes to the graphics core. In dynamics, the average quality looks good, but in static, the reflections do not seem pixelated only at high quality. If there is not enough FPS, then you can stop at the average. You should not choose a low one – it looks terrible, and there will be almost no increase in frames (compared to the average).
  • “Backlight Shading”. diffuse shading. Adds shadows at the joints and in the recesses, which makes the picture more natural. The maximum quality consumes on average about 10% of the current performance. Therefore, you can reduce it to medium quality, but not lower – at the minimum, additional shadows will almost disappear. This will make the picture flat, and many surfaces not so embossed.
