Giant, intelligent and affectionate schnauzer

As is the case in many cases, the origin of this breed must be found in a cross between several , such as the Great Dane , the Rottweiler , the Flemish Boyero or the German Shepherd , with the traditional Schnauzer (small size), of which the German farmers highlighted its uniqueness as a guard dog but too fragile to herd cattle. From the crossing of these large canids, ideal for surveillance and protection, the first specimens of Giant Schnauzer emerged in the seventeenth century and since then, the breed has evolved in character and personal qualities, going from being a shepherd or guardian dog to animal companion.

Powerful look

Its size does not go unnoticed: with a height that ranges between 60 and 70 centimeters and a weight that varies between 35 and 47 kilos, the Giant Schnauzer is a canid not only large in size, but also strong and robust. In addition to its bearing, its appearance stands out, like the rest of Schnauzers, it retains those bushy eyebrows, which stand out with the flat forehead and the raised, V-shaped ears.

But if its physical appearance and size are impressive, with that thick fur that covers its entire body, this breed powerfully draws attention due to the character and personality of the dogs; which is why in countries like Germany they are very common in homes with young children.

Sociable and protective

The Giant Schnauzer is a very intelligent dog, with a highly developed protective instinct and excellent social skills; the perfect playmate for the little ones in the house. The important thing is to know how to train them since they are puppies and socialize them well, because their territorial instinct is very marked and without a good education, they can become very possessive dogs. With the proper discipline, it is a very affectionate, familiar and playful animal. Hence, it is important that since childhood he gets used to sharing space, to interact with other puppies and with other people, both adults and children, and some routines that will make him the perfect companion animal for any home.

On the other hand, they are very active and agile canids, so they need physical exercise, long outings to burn energy and space to move freely at home. The perfect couple for jogging or long walks.
