Etymology
It comes from the Latin amicĭtas, amicitātis, which is derived from amicitĭa , which means ‘friendship’. This, in turn, comes from amīcus , which translates ‘friend’, while the latter comes from amāre , which means ‘to love’.

However, the date varies depending on the country where we are. In some places, such as Ecuador , El Salvador , Guatemala , Mexico , the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, it is celebrated on February 14 , together with Valentine’s Day . In Peru , it is celebrated on the first Saturday in July, while in Colombia it is the third Saturday in September, and in Chile the first Friday in October. Bolivia , for its part, celebrates it on July 23, and Argentina , Brazil andUruguay prefer to do it on July 20.
In this sense, one of the best known proposals to celebrate Friend’s Day is the one launched by an Argentine proposing to institute July 20, in commemoration of the arrival of man on the Moon in 1969 , due to the importance that this event constituted for the approach of all the people in the planet.
