Fast RMX Review

As you read these words, in Fast RMX you could have already made five overtaking, taken ten corners and used as many thrusters. If you were waiting for F-Zero, you’re in luck, because these Germans have come forward with a fairly genuine proposal and that now comes to Nintendo Switch in its final version. Analysis.

Those of us who are dedicated to writing about video games, we love to refer to other titles to explain their identity in a summarized way. It is not something I always agree with, but I think that with Fast RMX it is quite effective, because it is about the moment when Wipeout merges with F-Zero and the less known (but interesting) Extreme-G , collecting in passing the playable base of Ikaruga.

However, the funny thing is that it does not identify with any of those video games separately. Yes as a whole, giving rise to a work that acquires its own identity and that is absolutely frantic as a futuristic speed video game . You press your hands against the Nintendo Switch controller and, incidentally , your teeth, because it is capable of transmitting the tension of a dizzying race. Looking away from the screen, even for a fraction of a second, means being overtaken, crashing or falling into the void.

The video game is not new, it was already released on Wii U (with the name of Fast Racing Neo), becoming one of its highest rated releases. The Germans from Shin’en Multimedia have decided, quite judiciously, to switch to Nintendo Switch with a work that repeats the concept, now with more circuits. It is the best version available, although it does not have so many new features as to justify its acquisition if you already played it in its day.

Fast RMX: Launch Trailer

Quick no, next …Fast RMX is a very physical game, and it is something you feel when handling agile but demanding response aircraft, being necessary to lean on the triggers during turns to fully master the experience. That is why it is a grateful title if you dedicate time to it, because apart from the challenge of not crashing into the limits of the track, the difficulty becomes devilish as you advance through the 30 routes present.

The graphics are spectacular, with a dance of really worked effects, including the rain. One of the best right now for Switch.

But what truly makes the game unique is its Ikaruga concept of changing the color of your propulsion (blue or orange) to match the acceleration or jump marks that appear throughout the course. Therefore, it is not enough to be aware of the route itself, or of the rivals, but also to press the button at the precise moment. The game does not give respite.

Therein lies the success of his proposal, in taking us to the limit until we go above 1000 km / h thanks to an audiovisual section that is as deliriously vertiginous as it is brilliant. The scenes are futuristic, elevated above the sky, with impossible jumps and decorations that in many cases are pleasing for their beauty and variety, both day and night, or even raining. It is an authentic motorized show that on Nintendo Switch moves at 60 completely stable frames , accompanied by techno rhythms and voices of an (excited) commentator who do not stand out, but who do their job perfectly: to raise our adrenalin.

You can’t ask for much more from the video game. It is complete and variedAnother very positive aspect of Fast RMX is that it does not allow you to enter a state of comfort. You may be good at the first races, but from the fifth championship (there are ten in total), you can forget about reaching the finish line first with ease. We also have several difficulties , increasing the speed to make your eyes pop out of their sockets. You can’t ask for much more from the video game. It is complete and varied.

Of course, a greater differentiation between vehicles may be missed, and then the hero mode does not mean something too interesting: repeating the circuits, this time with an energy bar that counts the impacts (if you crash a lot, you lose the game ). The multiplayer mode is for a maximum of 8 people and it is not difficult to find a game currently. However, the trajectory of the competitors is shown in leaps during the race. It is not a very stable online and there is no incentive to turn it into a playable claim that proves its worth in the long term.

The video game allows up to four users to play locally on split screen, and it is appreciated, because it is something in danger of extinction.

There is a split screen for up to four players , an alternative that is appreciated, and we can put together several Nintendo Switches up to a total of eight to play locally. Only this option distances the video game from the majority in the driving genre. Besides, you can see that the Germans have made an effort to do something new for this machine. They claim to take advantage of the HD vibration , despite the fact that in practice it is not as present as one might expect.

I have noticed the accelerations, how my aircraft brushed against the asphalt, as well as the impacts against the ground after big jumps … but nothing that you have not felt with other controllers. Still, the effort of getting into racing is appreciated, because that’s what it’s all about, and it’s something that Fast RMX achieves perfectly. If you want a speed title for the premiere of your new machine, stop looking, because also as a launch video game it is one of the most recommended.

Fast RMX goes up to more than a thousand per hour with a version for Nintendo Switch that follows in the wake of its previous version for Wii U. The number of circuits is increased, but otherwise it keeps all the attributes intact: dizzying races and high quality that run halfway between classics like Wipeout, F-Zero or Extreme-G, but also acquiring its own identity. One of the best launch video games currently available for the catalog of the new Nintendo console.

  • Incredible sense of speed, one of the best in the futuristic racing genre
  • Variety and quantity of circuits, with different and interesting proposals
  • Progressive and quite demanding difficulty
  • It puts you on edge, thanks in part to the brilliant audiovisual section
  • It does not have much news regarding Wii U
  • The online mode could be more worked
