DOOM Eternal – All Easter Eggs Games

We tell you about the most interesting and unusual Easter eggs, secrets and references in DOOM Eternal

id Software has always liked to leave hints of her previous work in games, or to invoke pop culture. DOOM Eternal is no exception, with many quirky and funny secrets hidden in every level. Read on to find out where to find them.

Prey 2

In DOOM Eternal, you can see the cover of a book titled 2 Prey or Not 2 Prey. This could be a hint that development is currently underway on Prey 2, the sequel to the 2017 game.

Daisy Rabbit

Daisy is prominent in the Doom lore. This is the favorite rabbit of the Doom Slayer, for him she is the whole world. The executioner loved Daisy so much that for her sake he declared war on the entire demon world. Despite his confirmed death, Daisy is also present in DOOM Eternal. You can spot the bunny in various missions throughout the game. From time to time it will appear in the background of different locations. You can even see it on the title screen of the game, next to the arachnotron. You can also find the following painting in the Stronghold of the Guardians in the Doom Executioner’s apartment:

Classic look and sound of weapons from the original DOOM

If you want to feel nostalgic about the first games in the series, switch to the original weapon sound effects and move the barrels to the center of the screen. To do this, you just need to go to the settings and select the classic type of weapon. As for the classic sound effects, they are only available to the owner of the Deluxe Edition.

How do I play Doom and Doom 2 right in Eternal?

DOOM Eternal owners can do this without having to buy re-releases. Both games can be played on the old Executioner PC, which is located in the main character’s personal apartment.

DOOM 1 is unlocked after you complete the DOOM Eternal story campaign. To play DOOM 2, you need to open the computer in the Executioner’s room, select the second floppy disk and enter the FLYNNTAGGART code . This is the real name of the Executioner from literary works that you might not have heard of at all.

What about DOOM 3?

We continue to study the hobbies of the Executioner. If you look at the table, you will notice that there is a soul cube – the most powerful weapon in DOOM 3 . This game is to some extent a black sheep in the series, and it’s nice that in the ranks of id Software, someone still does not forget about it.

The hangman is an avid reader

Another funny Easter egg found in the Executioner’s room is his bookshelf. There you can find such classics as The Caco In The Rye and How To Win Friends And Kill Demons (How to make friends and kill demons). There are many references to other things not related to the DOOM series. For example, to Fallout, Half-Life and even the famous YouTube blogger Markiplier, who has repeatedly expressed his love for the series.

Here are some interesting books:

  • Ret-Conned: The Life and Times of Flynn Taggart / “Retcon: The Life and Times of Flynn Taggart” (DOOM stories).
  • The Spear of Destiny: A Post-War Deconstruction / “Spear of Destiny: Post-war reconstruction” (Wolfenstein).
  • U-NAT-CO Training Manual: Bomb Defusal / “U-NAT-CO Training Manual: Bomb Defusal” (Deus Ex).
  • Vault Dweller’s Survival Guide: Preparing Yourself and Your Loved Ones for the Inevitable Nuclear Apocalypse / Fallout.
  • Mesa Science Monthly: Predicting Unforeseen Consequences / “Mesa Science Monthly: Predicting Unforeseen Consequences” (Half-Life).
  • LIANDRI: A Brief History of Interplanetary Inquiry / “LIANDRI: A Brief History of Interplanetary Inquiry” (UNREAL).
  • Von Braun: Onboard AI System Technical Manual / “Von Braun: Onboard AI System Technical Manual” (System Shock 2).
  • My Buddy Superfly / Daikatana.
  • Why I’m So Great Pt. II by Dork Norkem / “Why I Am So Great, Part 2, Dork Norkem” (Duke Nukem).

Brainless Dopefish

Dopefish is a fictional dumb-headed fish that first appeared in Commander Keen , another id Software game. According to lore, CK is the second stupidest animal in the world.

What about Commander Keene himself?

You might not know, but the Commander Keen series is directly related to the DOOM universe. The commander is even considered to be the ancestor of our Marine. On the bookshelf, you can even find his weapon, helmet and possibly a skull.

Collectible toys

Like 2016’s DOOM, Eternal has tons of secrets hidden in every level. Some of them are collectible toys. There are a total of 31 statuettes in the game.

Collection of musical records

In addition to fun toys, the game contains 16 hidden albums that provide access to a variety of classic soundtracks from id Software’s games. I am glad that you can visually explore your collection when you visit the Keep of the Guardians, where posters for each track will be presented in the form of large paintings hanging on the walls. There is a soundtrack from the above Commander Keen.

Cheat codes

Perhaps the best (and certainly the most useful and effective) collectibles you can find in the game are the cheat diskettes. There are endless ammo, extra lives, power-up modes, confetti explosions (which enemies fly into) and even invisible Quakecon spectators cheering in response to your actions. The cooler you play, the better the public’s approval will be.

For fans of oddities, there is a cheat code that disables the receipt of armor and health when killing opponents. Agree, it’s strange to look for a way to increase the complexity by activating the cheat code. Usually pursues opposite goals.

The Executioner’s Impressive Wardrobe

Among other things, you can unlock numerous skins for the Executioner, weapons and other things. There are Marine armor from the original DOOM or outfits that you didn’t expect to see on the Executioner (such as the unicorn outfit).

A hidden message?

While on a mission or exploring the Stronghold of the Guardians, open the location map. Don’t do anything – just listen. At first glance, this is some kind of demonic background noise, but it is possible that a hidden message is encrypted in it. We stock up on popcorn and wait for someone from the enthusiasts to find a way and crack the code.

A reference to Terminator 2

Everyone remembers the death of the T-800, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie “Terminator 2”? You can repeat this scene in DOOM Eternal. You just need to die standing in the lava. In most cases, this sequence will trigger a small scene in which you will see the Executioner’s hand sticking out of the lava with a thumbs up. The same reference was made in Doom 2016 .

Postcredit scene

If you are patient and watch the end credits to the end, you will see a funny cut-scene in which a zombie plays with two collectible toys of the Executioner. Then the hero himself appears in the background, reloading the shotgun and thereby introducing the monster into a stupor.

Hello hugo

In the sixth story mission, if you look at the bags of Gulami dried meat inside the store, you will see a lucky guy. This man is none other than DOOM Eternal’s creative director, Hugo Martin. It should be nice to be immortalized by making you the mascot of beef jerky.

DOOM 64 Secret Cannon

The Unraveler is back on DOOM! This is a laser cannon that was originally supposed to appear in the first games of the series, but then it was cut. It was later added to DOOM 64. Now you can unlock it in DOOM Eternal too.

Guns and Bullets Magazine (Guns and Ammo / Dragon Ball Z)

It turns out that the Doom Slayer also loves non-fiction, as can be judged by the magazine Guns and Bullets found. Obviously, this is a reference to the real magazine Guns and Ammo (although, one could recall the series of magazines of the same name from Fallout 4). But id Software also did not resist and used the meme of the decade, placing it on the cover of the magazine: The BFG 10K is finally here and yes, it’s over 9000 (“The BFG-1000 is already here, and yes, it is larger than the 9000”). And the Over 9000 meme should be familiar to all Dragon Ball Z fans.

And yes, we also noticed that there is Science Monthly nearby, which has the same cover as Scientific American.

Hellboy

It looks like the Executioner is a comic fan. Especially the likes of Hellboy. To the right of his computer is a stack of pizza boxes with a comic book called Hellwalker on top of it. An obvious reference to a hell of a guy. Not convinced? Pay attention to the font: it is the same as on the cover of Hellboy issues.
