Do you use Firefox? Mozilla brings you bad news about the new version

While Chrome and Edge continue to fight each other to win the trust of users (with a clear difference in favor of Google’s browser), Mozilla continues to work quietly on its browser. Firefox has always stood out as a privacy-focused web browser that is much lighter and faster than its rivals. Unfortunately, as time has passed, its appearance has become somewhat outdated, and using it may seem that we are using an “old” browser. Firefox 90 aims to completely revamp the browser. However, a series of last minute problems have forced Mozilla to delay its launch.

Typically, each new version of Firefox introduces few changes to the browser. Thus, instead of taking a great leap between one version and another, Mozilla is testing and debugging the functions of its browser little by little. In the history of Mozilla’s browser there have only been a few versions that have really made fundamental changes to the browser: the latest are, for example, the one that introduced the Web Extension , known as Firefox Quantum , and the upcoming Firefox 90, too. known as Proton .

Proton will radically change and modernize the browser

The next version of Firefox is not an ESR version, far from it. It is actually a version that, although it will not bring great changes under the hood, will finally introduce the new look of the browser: Proton. This new appearance seeks to give a modern and renewed touch to Firefox . To do this, you will change all the elements, such as the address bar, tabs, menus and other aspects of it.

The tab and address bars will be much more careful. Not only will we be able to see the rounded tabs, but also the menus, buttons and all the elements of the browser. Furthermore, the Proton interface is much lighter than the previous one, which translates into a browser that opens faster and that, over time, consumes less PC resources.

Unfortunately, such an ambitious change takes a lot of work . And Mozilla has had no choice but to give bad news to users who were waiting for this new version.

Firefox 90 will arrive two weeks later

Initially, the new Firefox 89 had its launch scheduled for April 20, 2021. However, with just over a week to go, Mozilla has realized that it does not arrive on time. And for this reason, the company has been forced to extend the duration of the “beta” phase of the same by two weeks . This means that Firefox 90 “Proton” is also delayed for another two weeks, setting its date, right now, at June 1, 2021.

Users of the Nightly branch of the browser have access to the new Proton interface. However, even in these versions, with all the flags activated, the interface is not complete. Mozilla has a lot to do. For this reason, the company has had to change the release date of the two future versions of the browser, thereby obtaining more time to finish developing and debugging the new interface.

For now, Firefox 90 will reach all users in a stable phase on June 1 of this year, as we have said. However, if Mozilla does not have time yet, we may see further delays.
