Dark Souls Remastered Guide: Cheats, Tips and Secrets

Survive with us the return of one of the best video games of all time. ALL the secrets.

Don’t miss a single thing the game has to offer with our Complete Guide to Dark Souls Remastered .

Released in 2011, Dark Souls immediately became one of the greatest hits of the previous generation of consoles and PC. After the unexpected great reception that Demon’s Souls had in the West , this kind of multiplatform successor reached millions of homes of players who were desperate with its difficulty. Now, Dark Souls Remaster is here to join Scholar of the First Sin and Dark Souls III so you can play the entire trilogy on a single platform.

Dark Souls Remastered presents the original game, with all the adjustments and updates that were made at the time to offer an improved experience. In addition, the contents of the Prepare to Die Edition are included , so if at the time you did not face the challenge of the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, now is the time to do it.

Tips to start playing

For those who are not familiar with the first installment of Dark Souls, the game may choke them on more than one occasion due to its high difficulty and all the possibilities and freedoms it offers. You will surely die again and again and again, that is inevitable and you will have to get used to it but to try to help you we show you our best tips for beginners in Dark Souls.

Story

Dark So uls did not follow the usual “storyline” progress mechanics at the time, and of course this remastered version still does not. However, the zones remain the same , so regardless of the order you choose to complete the game, you already know the places you must go through.

You can visit the zones in the order you choose, but keep in mind that if you complete the entire part of the First Flame Furnace, you would go to New Game + . You don’t want to do that before you’ve done your best, so be careful with that. You can enter here if you want to know everything about how to complete the Dark Souls Remastered story .

The remastering corresponds to the Prepare to die Edition , which means that the Artorias of the Abyss DLC is included. Keep in mind that, to access this section, you must have advanced in history, at least , until you have reached the Archives of the Duqe .

Final bosses

The final bosses in Dark Souls Remastered are one of the great barriers that you will encounter as you progress through the story. Practically all of them are mandatory in order to advance, so it will not hurt to know all the tricks and secrets on how to defeat them with ease.

Weapons

We have a lot of weapons in this game. And not everything is a simple matter of choosing one that we like or do a lot of damage. Based on our attributes, the most damaging weapon in the game may be nothing more than a useless hunk of iron. So it is important to know all of them and, above all, to know where to find all the weapons in order to choose the one that suits us best.

Weapons are generally divided into several types, which depend on how our character attacks when using them properly:

  • Lanterns
  • Talismans
  • Gauntlets
  • Whips
  • Flames of Pyromancy
  • Daggers
  • Katanas
  • Straight swords
  • Lunge swords
  • Curved swords
  • Greatswords
  • Curved greatswords
  • Ultraspads
  • Catalysts
  • Spears
  • Long spears
  • Halberds
  • Bows
  • Big bows
  • Crossbows
  • Axes
  • Big axes
  • Maces
  • Large clubs

Armor

As important as finding the weapons is knowing how to get all the armor , for exactly the same reason. The most suitable armor for one player may be useless for another.

Attributes once again play an essential role in the choice of our armor, but we must also think about the total weight of the equipment to avoid being a victim of overload, which will turn us into cannon fodder.

Shields

The skilled player will always avoid attacking first when he does not know the enemy. For that you need to have found all the shields of Dark Souls and choose one that fits our style. Some prefer a huge shield to serve as a wall against all attack, while others will prefer a smaller one with which to deflect the enemy’s attack and stab him in a counterattack .

Like the whole team, choosing a suitable shield for our character is important so as not to find ourselves in trouble.

  • Small shields
  • Normal shields
  • Large shields

Rings

The usual accessories have no place in this set. Instead of pendants or quirky decorations, we have all the Dark Souls rings that many of you will already know. Picking a good ring is almost as important as the rest of the gear – a poison-resistant ring, for example, can save you in toxic areas. One of fire is essential to fight demons. Choosing a ring well is the first step to survival in Lordran.

Magic

Dark Souls Remastered magic attacks are divided into three types: Miracles, Spells, and Pyromances. The former are usually intended for healing or defensive magic, Spells offer from offensive attacks to special effects such as covering our weapons with an element, and Pyromances are the most offensive magic of all.

Knowing how all Miracles, Spells and Pyromances work is important when trying to follow the path of the magician, because each magic style and each magic in itself requires specific attributes, so mastering them all is highly complicated.

Characters

Possibly the second most important mechanic in the game just behind the equipment. As you progress, you will come across a number of characters to talk to. If you do things in a specific way, you will be progressing in your quest, which leads to new weapons, armor, spells, miracles and pyromances .

You have to be very careful with these missions, because it is very easy to do something wrong and this results in failure and losing the possible reward. Also, you shouldn’t do them all, because there are also missions that you shouldn’t complete . If you want more details on this, we have prepared everything you need to know about the characters and their side missions in Dark Souls .

All classes and which one to choose

Although once you have advanced this will totally lose its importance, it does not hurt to know what are the initial “classes” that we can create at the beginning of our game. This only matters for a few hours, as you will evolve your character as you prefer later on, but it can be a good way to set off on a combat route.

In general, we have to talk about two basic character classes, the warrior and the wizard, but there are several intermediate ones that allow hybrid styles. It is not particularly advisable to try this at first, but it is always an option.

For the rest, it all depends on what you want to do. There is no class better than others , although obviously those that are based on the use of Strength and Dexterity are easier to master than those that require Faith and Intelligence. However, you should keep in mind that melee classes also require raising Life and Stamina , which means spending more points.

Basically, you have three classes:

  • Melee:warriors, ninjas, knights … depending on the type of weapon and armor you wear. Depending on the weapon you choose (check which parameters it scales with) you will have to increase Strength or Strength and Dexterity. Some magical weapons also require upgrading of Intelligence and Faith.
  • Magician:above all they require Faith and Intelligence. Faith is used to cast Miracles and Intelligence Spells. It is better to have medium armor, because although the enemy will normally not be able to reach you, spells take time to cast.
  • Hybrid:the most common is the melee pyromancer. Pyromances do not require large stats to be used, so almost any character can use them. Above all, they require expanding your Learning slots.

Gestures

How do you communicate with people you do not know at all, with whom you have probably never had contact and are sure they speak another language? All gestures have a meaning that the community knows and usually takes into account when meeting someone, both cooperatively and competitively.

From the beginning you have Aim forward / up / down, Greet, Call and Pray (obvious meanings of each, except for Pray that does not have a specific one). Bow , also available from the start, is used to politely greet or clarify to a PvP opponent that the fight will be honorable on your part and without using Estus.

Apart from those, you have these gestures, almost all with an explicit meaning. All are achieved with “Learn gesture” speaking with the indicated character:

  • Shrug: Petrus of Thorolund .
  • Well, what’s up ?: Oswald de Carim .
  • Joy: Zena’s Domhnall .
  • Bow: Oolacile Dusk .
  • Hurray !: André de Astora .
  • Look at the sky: Shiva of the east .

Covenants

Although this game does not offer a clan creation system like other online RPG titles, we do have several Pacts that work more or less the same way.

Joining a Pact has the advantage that it is easier to play online with people who have accepted it, in addition to giving access to magic and some pieces of equipment and special rings . However, you also have to be careful because being part of certain Pacts can make things very difficult for you
