Biographical synthesis

Of Bosnian origin, he was born in Domislica, a town near Tesanj, Bosnia Eyalet. It grew in the ranks during the period when virtual authority and influence were celebrated by Sokollu Mehmed Pasha .

In 1581 , shortly after the death of Mehmed Pasha, Ayse Sultan , daughter of Prince Murad III , married , becoming governor of Egypt . But due to his absence from the capital and with Sokollu Mehmed Pasha dead, his influence waned for the remainder of Murad III’s reign.

Acquired titles

He acquired the titles of ( Damat ) and ( Pasha ), despite the fact that he was grand vizier on three occasions and from the wedding with Ayse one of the daughters of Sultan Murad III, for which he acquired the title of ( Damat ) as the bride and groom of the Ottoman dynasty, historians not to confuse him with other great viziers who were with the same name, such as Pargali Ibrahim Pasha , illustrious grand vizier of Suleiman the Magnificent or Nevşehirli Damat Ibrahim Pasha , who held the position in the early 18th century during the Era of the tulip in the Ottoman Empire , they identify it as Damat Ibrahim Pasha.

Grand Vizier’s Office

He served as Grand Vizier three times:

  • The first time from April 4 to October 27 , 1596 .
  • The second time from December 5 , 1596 to November 3 , 1597 .
  • The third and last time, from January 1599 to July 10 , 1601 .

Events

For the first time he became grand vizier in 1596, under the reign of Mehmed III . Its recovery was specifically due to the loss of territories in the border regions between the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburg Monarchy in Hungary .

Rather than rush to immediate action, he distinguished himself as an orderly, methodical, and prudent statesman who preferred to begin by carrying out an overhaul of the entire Ottoman administrative system based on the focal point of the prepared campaign against Austria .

The campaign itself was a success and Ibrahim Pasha acquired the title, by his sultan, of “the conqueror of Eger” (northeast of Budapest ), although he was the one in effective command. Since he favored solidifying the structure of the state and the profits made rather than pursuing the Austrians, he was removed from his post as grand vizier, first for a short interval of 45 days in late 1596 , and then for a second time at the end of the following year.

He was called back to be grand vizier in 1599 on the condition that he would launch a campaign against Austria. He began his campaign by pretending to threaten Vienna directly in the direction of Esztergom (conquered by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1543 and lost again in 1595 ), but eventually wintered in Belgrade . He then began to pressure Austria via a more southerly route by besieging Kanije Castle .

The Turkish slaves in the castle blew up the powder magazines and severely damaged the walls. But the castle had not yet surrendered and an army of 20,000 soldiers under the command of Philip Emanuel de Lorraine , [[Duke of Mercœur] came to the aid of the besieged.

The Ottoman army eventually defeated the two armies and the castle surrendered. Tiryaki Hasan Pasha had been appointed as the governor of the newly conquered city.

Death

He died in 1601 , when Kanije had become the center of new Ottoman attacks in Central Europe . In September of this year, an attempt by a huge Austrian army to recapture the castle was thwarted by this ruled. Esztergom was not recovered by the Ottoman Empire until 1605 .
