Curtains

Curtains . Moving parts, usually cloth , that cover windows inside buildings. Its function is to totally or partially prevent the passage of light and visibility from the outside. They can also be used behind an access door. Curtains are placed in any room that has windows, but especially in bedrooms to remove light at the time of sleep. If they are very thin and allow light to pass through, they are called net curtains . Also, an important detail is that they serve to not allow the access of the cold, because at the time of cold currents or rains, the glass (conductor) allows cooling and this passes into the environment by lowering the temperatures.

Origin

The curtains begin their development in ancient Rome and Egypt , where the elaboration of objects such as capes gave rise to the curtains, these were used by emperors and pharaohs, to cover themselves from the rays of the sun when they were in their residence or on the royal balconies .

The breakthrough that had the curtains was in the Middle Ages , where they represented the social status of those who had, thanks to its development in fabrics like cloth and threads of gold , without commenting on the inclusion of very luxurious items like stones Precious , this represented the wealth of whoever owned it.

On the other hand they accompany the historical evolution of the Church , it is the presence of God in the midst of men: the Shekinah . The Bible names it as a luminous cloud that welcomes the new people, to give space to the man who returns to God. It is thus presented, at least in an embryonic form, as a sign of protection.

In medieval times, the ceremonial canopy that protects the passage of the nobles arises , like a great head covering to worship and to which to bow.

With the Renaissance, on the other hand, the curtain, understood as weaving or draping, becomes a royal ornament: the nobles acquire the fabrics in the East and adorn the corridors of their palaces.

It was in the Baroque , with the birth of the scenery and the love for drapes, when the cult of curtains understood as ornament was born . With the arrival of Napoleon, the fabric assumes a greater impetus, also favored by the increase in wealth and the needs of the Court. You had to hide from prying eyes and the whisper of the Court should not be spread in the corridors. This is the reason why the filled fabric appears : the walls, the doors and, of course, the windows, were adorned with sumptuous drapes, “quilted”, painted and enriched with fretwork , designs and gold borders .

A good statement that can be made is that the curtains are the mother of other elements very similar to this, such as blinds and blinds , which are elements that go hand in hand with the curtains.

Today the curtain shows sobriety and elegance without taking anything away from the surrounding decoration . Nowadays, although the curtains do not mean the social status of a person, they can refer to the glamor and class that a person possesses.

The curtains are also an element of vital importance in some areas such as decoration, since their great variety of materials, sizes and colors make this is classified as the main part of any decoration, since without it the appearance would be very simple.

Types of curtains

Today the development of curtains has allowed them to be divided into several types, some of them are:

Bath courtain

  • Mosquito net: theyare curtains designed with the purpose of preventing insects such as flies, among others, from entering our homes, generally these curtains are used in campingand outdoor places, although currently mosquito nets are also placed in windows and cribs.
  • Decorative curtains: theyare designed as the name implies to decorate, they are generally made of classic colors and materials to give a sober look to the place where they are located, these curtains can be defined in three main classes, panel curtains, coffee and bands .
  • Shower curtains: theyare made in order to repel water, these are usually made of plastic .

Other terms of curtains

Wind curtain, or forest curtain, is usually made of one or more rows of trees planted like this in order to provide protection from the wind, prevent wind erosion , sudden evapotranspiration. They are planted around the edges of lots or agricultural fields. It can also be made from annual plants.

In buildings, if a curtain is properly designed, the cost of heating and cooling can be reduced, saving energy.

On roads, curtains help keep the asphalt tape free of snow . Other benefits are to provide habitat for fauna, and a remnant of branches for firewood is usually extracted vulgarly.

Another use for curtains is to separate the farm from the main road. This reduces visual incursion from the road, reduces traffic noise, and improves the separation between farm animals and the road.

Air curtain is a ventilation equipment that creates an invisible barrier over the door to separate two different environments efficiently and without limiting access for people or vehicles.

Keeps the environment clean of pests and insects , dust, suspended particles, contamination, odors and stops cold and hot air currents.
