Close a popular pirate streaming app alternative to Kodi

Kodi is one of the reference applications in the streaming market . Although the app is legal and allows you to consume all kinds of content without breaking the law, there are many unofficial addons that allow you to access movies, series and live content without paying. Now, an app that sought to emulate its success has disappeared without a trace.

We are talking about Mobdro , an application that offered free live channels from all over the world directly integrated into the app without having to install anything additional. For this functionality it has been compared a lot with other apps such as Popcorn Time , being a kind of mix of it and Kodi.

Mobdro app and website stop working

Last week, the official website of the service stopped being operational. This is common among hacking-related services, and they usually come back to life within a few days. Mobdro itself has changed in its history to domains like Mobdro.com, Mobdro.sc or Mobdro.bz .

Now, in addition to the fact that the web has not worked for days, it is added that the application itself no longer works correctly . Last Friday, a newly created account on Reddit posted a message effectively announcing the death of the service.

In that message, the user states that “Mobdro no longer works because access to the streams has been removed due to legal proceedings for infringement of protected content.” Specifically, it seems that it has been the cricket association in India that has forced the closure of the service for broadcasting its matches without permission. The domains used by the app are closed, so the channels are no longer accessible.

The message also alerts users not to download any app under the name Mobdro or access any website, as they are likely to be malicious and seek to infect users with malware .

Cricket in India would be behind the closure of the service

Also added to that message is a URL showing a shortened version of the DMCA claim sent by the Indian cricket association, listing 77 URLs that Mobdro offered for download, and asking Google to remove them. The request was submitted on December 18, and Google removed dozens of those URLs. However, the service was still operational because Google has little to do there, since the servers have nothing to do with the search engine.

Thus, the closest thing to an official message is the Reddit post in which it is communicated that “the service is no longer active.” If that is really its creator, it seems that the door is closed for it to be operational again in the future. However, an alternative service is also likely to emerge in the coming months given the success of Mobdro. In fact, there are several alternative apps that work better than Mobdro, whose application already left a lot to be desired because, probably, its developers had stopped putting effort into maintaining it with optimal performance.
