Anno 1800 beginner’s guide

How to Learn How to Manage a Settlement in Ubisoft’s New Economic Strategy

Anno 1800 differs little from previous games in the series. However, if you are unfamiliar with economic strategies, you may have difficulties. We have compiled this small guide especially for beginners.

  • Don’t build buildings too tightly. When your farmers are promoted to workers, they will have new needs and, as a result, you will have to build new buildings near their homes.
  • Do not convert all farmers to workers at once. Only farmers work in agriculture and fisheries, and you must not allow too few of them.
  • Construct as many buildings as possible that produce resources. You need three or four sawmills to supply the entire settlement with boards. Master the clay pits and iron deposits on your island as quickly as possible. All of these buildings will be located at a distance from the center of your settlement, so do not forget to build warehouses.
  • Even if you don’t have enough resources, you can make a plan for your settlement. Just place the buildings where you want, they will be translucent. Once you have enough boards, bricks and iron – bring the plan to life.
  • Explore. Send ships in search of new islands and valuable resources, even if you are not ready to start colonizing now. Remember where the deposits of various metals are, because in the future you will need them.
  • Set up colonies on neighboring islandsas soon as you are ready. Your island won’t have all the resources it needs anyway. In the later stages of the game, it is best to move production further away from the center so that your main city remains attractive.
  • Maintain high performance. Coal mines and lumberjacks’ houses must be moved away from other buildings, and industrial production must be provided with labor. If necessary, build additional residential buildings nearby.
  • Trade. You don’t need a surplus of goods, and thanks to the exchange with other factions, you can get rare resources.
  • Control the speed of the game. If the production cycle is streamlined and you just wait until you have the required number of boards and bricks, feel free to speed up the game. The corresponding icon is in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Build a zoo and a museum. They will dramatically increase the attractiveness of the city and allow you to make good money on tourism. You can get valuable artifacts and rare animals after a successful expedition to the New World, or just buy from your neighbors.
  • Expand gradually. In order not to go bankrupt, you need to gradually increase the population and make sure people are happy. Build industrial buildings only when your incomes significantly exceed your expenses.
