Amazon Fresh was launched in February 2021 as a service by the shopping giant to compete with supermarkets. Beyond all the products on Amazon, it now allows you to buy fresh products. Meat, fish, frozen, drinks, dairy…. More than 10,000 products in a new section that you have been able to see on the web and that we will talk about in depth today. We explain what it is, where it works, how it works, what advantages it has or how you can use it.
One of the main advantages of Amazon Fresh is that you can buy oranges and receive them in an hour, but also an Echo Show if you have a gift to make or a diaper package if you have an emergency on Sunday and cannot leave the house. Designed especially for those who cannot get to the supermarket on time and available every day of the week almost at any time of day.
What is Amazon Fresh?
Amazon Fresh is the Amazon service for Amazon Prime users that allows you to make your purchase online in a supermarket that delivers in one or two hours at home, seven days a week, from Monday to Sunday from eight in the morning to eleven of the night. It has more than 10,000 products, including Amazon brand products such as local products (especially fresh) and internationally recognized and used brands. It has free shipping from 50 euros and we can choose when we want it to arrive at our house quickly and without planning since the shipments are the same day that we make the purchase.
Where does it work?
Since its inception, Amazon Fresh has been available in Spain in the Community of Madrid. Since February 2021 it is available in the capital but it is expected to reach more provinces soon or to large Spanish cities as Prime Now does in Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga, Seville and Valencia.
To be able to use Amazon Fresh, you need to be an Amazon Prime customer and pay the annual subscription of 36 euros per year.
Catalogue
In Amazon Fresh you find all kinds of products , from food and fresh (as the name suggests) to air fresheners, candles, shaving or body care. It has a wide catalog with Amazon’s own brands in products such as coffee or nuts and drugstores, for example, but also brands that you would find in the supermarket or fresh products: eggs, meat, fruits, vegetables, sausages …
Shipping and delivery costs
Shipping on Amazon Fresh is free on purchases over 50 euros if you want the delivery in a two-hour window that you can choose. On the same day or in the following days. You can make a purchase if you need to spend less than 50 euros but it will have a price of 3.90 euros if you choose delivery in two hours.
Of course, the minimum order is 15 euros and you will not be able to buy only a shampoo or a loaf of bread for two or three euros even if you do not mind paying the shipping costs. In addition, you can choose a slot of a single hour with a price of 4.99 on orders over 50 euros or 7.99 on orders under 50 euros. Amazon Fresh delivers every day of the week, Monday through Sunday, from eight in the morning until 24:00 at night.
Differences with Prime Now
And what is the difference with Prime Now? Prime Now has been in Spain for years but Amazon Fresh arrived in 2021 so it may be the first question we ask ourselves when using the service. The first difference is the interface, at the user level. To buy on Amazon Fresh we do it from the Amazon.com website itself, as when you go to buy a phone or a pack of markers.
On the other hand, to buy in Prime Now we do it from Primenow.amazon.es with a totally different and specific interface for these purchases. Maybe if you have gotten used to Prime Now, the interface to make the purchase will be more comfortable for you than to do it directly from Amazon where there are more possibilities and categories and it may be more difficult for you to lose yourself. Of course, as an advantage in favor of Fresh you will not have to install anything else on the mobile if you do not want to occupy double the space with a specific app for purchases in two hours.
Another important difference is in the delivery: Amazon Prime Now allows you to deliver the products on the same day or the next day in two-hour slots. Amazon Fresh allows a greater time slot and not only on that day or the next, but you can choose to be on the same day or at some point in the next three days. In addition, it has the extra of allowing us to choose an exact time when our order will arrive : from nine in the morning to ten in the morning, from eleven to twelve … It is enough that that strip is free so that you can use it, which It will limit a lot and you will not have to be at home for several hours waiting for the package.
What other differences are there? A priori, Amazon Fresh includes a greater number of products and a greater variety when buying. Of course, not all are advantages: Amazon Fresh is only in Madrid and Prime Now, as of February 2021, is available in Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga, Valencia, Seville and Madrid.
On the other hand, Amazon Prime Now in some cities (as is the case of Madrid) not only allows us to add products generically to the basket but we can choose the place from which they arrive. That is, in Amazon Fresh you add cheese or tomato to your basket and you receive it in one or two hours. From Prime Now you can choose to have that cheese or those tomatoes arrive from the Mercado de la Paz and not from Amazon warehouses, which makes a difference if you are looking for something specific.
How to use Amazon Fresh
As we have explained in previous paragraphs, Amazon Fresh is available from the Amazon website so you can order from the website itself or from the usual app without having to download a new one (as is the case with Amazon Prime Now). the Amazon home page, if your zip code allows it, you will see the first tab “Fresh” in the menu bar, under search. If you put a zip code that does not deliver or does not work with Amazon Fresh you will see that it indicates “does not deliver in your area.”
When you touch on “Fresh” you will see that the interface changes to light tones with a green bar at the top. This way you will know that you are in this section and not in another. Once you are inside, you will find the different categories:

- Beverages
- Home care
- Personal care
Choose the category you want and see the available products. Within each product you will see the price, description or related products below. You will find a button that allows you to choose the quantity and touch on ” Add to cart”. You simply have to add everything you need to the Amazon basket.
You can also go to the “Previous orders” section in the menu that will allow you to select products that you usually buy. This way you will quickly find what you always have in the fridge or pantry and you won’t have to search by categories… Your usual yogurts, bread or coffee are on this list where the frequent items that you usually ask from Fresh are added. Of course, for them to appear you must have used the service before or have bought in Prime Now.
When you’re done, view the Amazon basket as you would any other purchase. Here we will see that the basket shows two different sections: Amazon Fresh and the rest of the products in the online store. This allows us to have two different sections depending on whether we want to buy on Amazon Fresh without mixing or paying what we have pending from other categories.
At the top, in the “Fresh” section, you can tap on “Proceed to pay for the Fresh basket ” on the right side. Once here we will choose the shipping date. If you order on a Thursday, for example, you can choose between the day itself, Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Confirm the delivery address where you want it and then we will see the delivery times of one hour or two hours. You can choose the one you want although the price will vary depending on whether you choose one or two hours and what you have bought ( more or less than 50 euros)
Once you have completed the order, a confirmation will be sent by email and the dealer will deliver your purchase at the scheduled time. You can usually track where your package is in real time until it gets home.
