His life

At the University, he had an outstanding career. He organized and was a featured speaker at the First Revolutionary Student Congress in 1923 . He was also the leader of the student group “Renovation”, in charge of promoting the University Reform of 1924 . He was a fighting partner of Julio Antonio Mella , and together with him he participated in the founding of the Communist Party of Cuba in 1925 , at the Popular University “ José Martí”and from the” Ariel Institute “, a mixed secondary school with very advanced conceptions, where both were teachers. Bernal del Riesgo was active in social struggles as a lawyer and educator, which led him into exile ( 1931 – 1933 ) in Vienna , where he studied Psychology .

Return from Exile

Upon his return, he established himself in private practice as a psychologist and worked as a teacher at the Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza in Pinar del Río . Then he worked as a clinical psychologist and professor in the Civics course at the University of Havana, he wrote his texts and in them he developed “Cubanosofía” as the study of the Cuban psychological identity. His first articles reflect the influence of Varona and Aguayo. His later work clearly illustrates his concern for the development of a psychology oriented to the cultural and economic reality of Cubans (Bernal del Riesgo, 1944 ).
