Origin

This shrub is of uncertain origin, although in the wild it appears to be found only in Macedonia , Asia Minor, and the Caucasus .

It is a small deciduous tree or shrub, it grows between 4-10 meters high. Simple, oval to elliptical leaves 3.5-7.5 cm long and 2-4 cm wide.

Flowers colored white pure, 2-2.5 cm in diameter, in clusters. Flowering in spring . Rounded fruits of reddish to blackish color, with soft, juicy and acidic flesh, are born on the shorter stems.

Medicinal use

The fruit of this plant is used as a diuretic, astringent, expectorant., For genitourinary conditions (cystitis, ureteritis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, oliguria, urolithiasis), hyperazotemia, hyperuricemia, gout , arterial hypertension .

Its daily consumption reduces blood levels of uric acid. Another of its uses is in people with obesity accompanied by fluid retention.

The sour cherry brings a lot of benefits to our body, due to the amount of nutrients. Therefore, it is a fruit that must be included in the diet .

Chemical composition

This little fruit provides vitamins A , B , C and E . It also contains ellagic acid (a substance that inhibits the reproduction of cancer cells).
