With mods you can adapt Valheim and bring into play new functions that it does not normally offer. DLPrivateServer explains how mods can be installed and which mods are worth your while.
What are mods? A mod, short for “mod”, changes the game and brings with it new options and functions. Most mods are supposed to make Valheim easier or more enjoyable, but some also add more realism or make the game even more difficult than it already is.
In many cases, however, it only opens up new possibilities that the game alone does not offer.

Note that Valheim does not yet officially support Mods through the Steam Workshop. Problems can arise, so we urgently recommend that you back up your data. In our guide we explain how to make a backup of your world and your characters.
Install Valheim Mods: This is how it works
You can install mods by hand or through a mod manager. We recommend the Vortex manager, which you can find on the Nexusmods website. Nexusmods is one of the largest mod providers. For downloads, you need an account on the website.

Download Vortex and install the program. In the “Games” tab, you must allow the administrator to manage Valheim. To do this, you may need to download additional settings.
This is what the manager looks like. You first have to select Valheim in the “Games” tab.
Then you can install the listed mods from its pages by clicking “Download Mod Manager” via Vortex. However, you may need two more tools beforehand.
BepInExPack Valheim is a loading tool for modifying in Valheim and is required for most larger mods. Load the tool and extract it to a folder (not the games folder). Then move the contents of the folder to “(…) steamapps common Valheim”. You can find the BepInEx download and installation instructions here.
InSlimVML is another upload tool. Similar to BepInEx, you can simply download the tool, unzip it, and then copy the files to the Valheim folder. Replace the files to be replaced. You can find InSlimVML here on Nexusmods.
If you want to use both loaders, it is easier to install BepInEx first and then InSlimVML.

Better Valheim with Valheim Plus
Valheim Plus is redesigning most of the game’s features. Adjusts many values, allows more building options, and speeds up the rate of mead fermentation and mineral melting.
For builders, there is also the option to rotate components around all their axes. So you can build different objects in a completely new way.

Better inventory with equipment and quick slots
This mod improves your inventory by granting you additional slots for your quick access and gear. Armor and Potions are out of inventory in an additional UI, so you can save inventory space. Only weapons are not included yet.

Mineral transport with unrestricted portals
With unrestricted portals you can take all objects through a portal, including minerals and metals. They tend to avoid teleportation. You can also forbid this mod to add additional elements to make the game a bit more complicated.
Alternatively, you can dig channels through the islands to carry heavy objects and make it easier to navigate by boat or drag your friends out to sea behind you with a harpoon.

Crafting is easier with Craft Build Smelt Cook Fuel Pull From Containers
Behind the very uncomfortable name of the mod is a very simple function. The mod allows you to carry out all the creation and construction projects without having the resources in your pockets. It is enough if they are in your chests in the warehouse.
For example, you can make objects, light a fire, melt minerals, or construct buildings without having to run to the box all the time.

More agriculture with Planting Plus
Planting Plus allows you to grow more plants in your garden. This includes:
- all berries (raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries)
- yellow, red and blue mushrooms (the latter is only available through the console)
- Thistles and dandelions
- Birches, oaks and ancient trees
Without the mod, you can only plant carrots, beets, and a few trees. Horticulture is in great need of players – many Vikings prefer to grow berries and mushrooms rather than fight.

BuildShare
BuildShare saves your structures as a separate model (a “.vbuild” file) in a folder. So you can save certain buildings and build them over and over again or you can send the file to your friends and give them your own base as a model.

Really tame everything with AllTameable
AllTameable allows you, as the name suggests, to tame all the creatures of Valheim. Some players are already using the mod to keep and breed trolls as pets. You can even tame bosses and dragon eggs can be hatched.

Harder Valheim with survival mods
For some players, Valheim is either too easy or not realistic enough. There are also some mods for this Vikings hit that make the game even more difficult. For example, they make sure that you:
- dying of thirst and hunger
- Can no longer parry ranged attacks with shields.
- Material needed for repairs
- get heavier enemies

The Mod First Person view adjusts the camera position so you can always look into your own character’s eyes. Then you play Valheim in the first person and you can feel a bit more like a true Viking in Valheim.
