Windows programs will also have round corners

Although every 6 months we receive a new version of Windows 10, the operating system has not changed much, at least aesthetically speaking, in the 6 years it has been around. However, this year things will change. Microsoft has been working on Windows 10 Sun Valley for a long time , which will be the system update that will arrive this fall to all users. After the small 21H1 update, 21H2 is going to be one of the biggest views yet. And, among all the changes we hope to see in it, one of the most relevant will be the end of the square corners that have been with us for 25 years.

Windows windows have always been very similar over the years: a square or rectangle that is placed on the desktop and that we can move wherever we want. macOS and Linux have long looked much more modern in this regard, showing many more rounded elements throughout the system. However, in the case of Windows, the corners of the windows, and all other elements of the system, are  finished in a point .

Although they are not yet available to everyone, some Insider users have been able to see the first appearance changes of Windows 10 Sun Valley: the round corners . These corners will apply to browser windows, the start menu, notifications, context menus, and other elements of the system. However, it was still in doubt if these were going to reach all the operating system programs.

Now, thanks to a new leak, we know that it is. And, in addition, we can get an idea of how they are going to be.

Windows Terminal: the first program that already has round corners

A new leak on Twitter (which has now disappeared) has allowed us to see how Microsoft programs have started to implement these new rounded corners. And the first to do so has been Windows Terminal .

As we can see, the corners of this app now have a rounded touch according to the other images of other elements of the system that have been seen in past leaks. At the moment we not only do not know more details about this aesthetic change or about the next applications that will receive this important change, but we do not even know if this change will finally arrive with Sun Valley. Most likely yes, but nothing is certain yet.

Be that as it may, it seems that this time Microsoft is taking the aesthetic change of Windows 10 seriously. And it is most likely that the round corners are one of the characteristics of WinUI 3 , so that all applications that are ported to said format will receive this feature.

Sun Valley: the expected change of Windows 10

After the disappointment of Windows 10 21H1 , which is going to be one of the smallest updates, 21H2, also known as Sun Valley, will be one of the largest since the launch of Windows. Every week we can see new aesthetic changes, new corrections and features that, in the fall of this year, will be available to all users.

As the company announced some time ago, Microsoft is working on a visual rejuvenation and an improvement of the Windows 10 experience for both the operating system and its main programs. And so far, from what we can see, he’s doing a great job. But, looking back, it is better not to get too excited and wait calmly.
