Windows 10 fixes the latest big blue screen bug

A few days ago, we picked up a serious bug that was affecting many Windows 10 users around the world. After the last Patch Tuesday of the operating system, launched on March 9, users with printers of various brands saw their computers give a blue screen as soon as they hit the print button. Fortunately, Microsoft has put the batteries and has released a patch solving the bug.

It took only a week for the patch to arrive. These types of situations are rare, where you usually wait until the end of the month to update the bugs. However, when one is as serious as this, they tend to rush much more to solve it, and in this case the rain of complaints made them get down to work immediately.

Microsoft took a week to patch it

Among the manufacturers affected by the ruling we find Kyocera, Ricoh, Zebra or Dymo . If you use a printer of the affected brands, a driver conflict is generated when you press it to print, and the computer gives a blue screen with the code APC_INDEX_MISMATCH .

The update has been released as an option. Therefore, we will have to click Check for updates manually, and there we will see the corresponding patch to install. Depending on the version of Windows 10 that we have, we will have one of the following patches: KB5001565, KB5001566, KB5001567 or KB5001568 . The most likely that will come out is the KB5001567 , since it is the one that is installed on 2004 or 20H2, the last two versions of the operating system available. The patch that caused the failure in the last two versions of the system was KB5000802 .

After installing it, the operating system will be updated to build 19041.868 or 19042.868 depending on whether we have 2004 or 20H2.

Type 3 printers, affected

Microsoft, after fixing the bug, claims that the Windows 10 printer problem affected ” Type 3 ” printers, and did not affect “Type 4” printers. For this reason, they have created a help page in which they detail how we can check the type of printer we have. In it, we have to follow the following steps.

First, we go to Printer Management ( printmanagement.msc ). In there, we go to Print Servers , and click on the name of our PC to expand it. In there we go to Printers, and on the right side of the whole we will see the Type of driver used by our printers. If we use a Type 3, it is possible that it is among those affected, since apparently not all suffer from the problem.
