XD is an emoticon or emoji that is used to represent a laughing face. It is commonly used in chats , instant messaging or informal digital content.
XD is also a design application, a format of screens for commercial cinema and is part of the name of several products and trademarks around the world.
XD on social media
XD on Facebook , Instagram or instant messenger is an emoticon or emoji (combination of image and letter, in Japanese) that is used to express uncontrolled laughter.
Before the existence of emojis , the union of the characters X and D was used as an emoticon because if you look at 90 degrees, it looks like a face with closed eyes and open mouth, a typical gesture of someone who laughs out loud (XD).
The XD emoji can be used in response to a funny comment, although little by little its use has spread to become part of everyday digital communications, so it is common to incorporate it at the end of a sentence.
However, the Royal Spanish Academy considers that its use is incorrect when used to replace a word or phrase.

XD in design
Adobe XD is a graphic editing application developed by the Adobe company to create prototypes of user experiences for apps and or websites. The application has been available since 2015 and since 2017 it is no longer a trial version.
Adobe XD is available for MacOs and Windows.

XD in film and television
In the entertainment industry, XD is an acronym for Extreme Digital Cinema , a large format screen format used in commercial theaters.
XD can support 21 x 12 meter screens, however, the image resolution is not of optimal quality, since this format only acts as a projector, that is, it increases the size of the original images to adapt them to the required size.
The XD format is considered a low-cost alternative for the projection of audiovisual material, which is why it is present in many of the major cinema chains around the world.
In this same area, Disney XD is the name of one of the Disney company’s subscription channels, whose programming is aimed at preteen and young viewers. The channel was created in 2009.
