History

The original name of this magazine was The Golden Age ( The Golden Age ), known for a time in Spanish as Luz y Verdad. Its first issue came out on October 1 , 1919 . It was a publication that reported on many spheres of human activity. It put people on notice as to what was happening in the world and told them that the true solution to man’s problems is the Millennial Kingdom of Christ. Although the cover design changed several times, the message remained unchanged. The Golden Age was created to be distributed to the public, and for many years its circulation was much higher than that of The Watch Tower magazine (now in Spanish, La Atalaya).

Beginning with the October 6 , 1937 issue, The Golden Age was changed to Consolation. “The new name is related to the truth,” declared the number (reflected in Spanish in Consolación). Also Jehovah’s Witnesses considered that the term “golden age” had a hint of Greek mythology . Furthermore, “Consolation” was thought to be a more appropriate name for the troubled times in the world.

However, with the passage of time, they considered that the name “Consolation” did not appeal to everyone, as some did not require any type of consolation. For that reason, 22 as August as 1946 (in Spanish on January 8, 1947), he became known as “Awake!” (Wake up!) In addition, it went from a biweekly magazine to a biweekly with the August 22, 1950 issue. [1]

In 2006 [2] it became a monthly magazine until 2016. At present it is quarterly and alternates its appearance with the magazine La Atalaya, and replaced its editions from months to numbers, being “February 2016” replaced by the edition “2016, No. 1”
