Types of fruits

Fruits are those edible fruits that come from some plant or plant species. As we well know, a fruit is an organ that contains the seeds of the plant that gave rise to it. Therefore, fruits are the result of the reproduction process of a plant. For their part, fruits are usually very important foods for humans, as they contain a large amount of vitamins and many other nutritional properties. They are generally eaten fresh or raw, since in this way they are better used. However, in many cases it is also processed or industrialized to be consumed by humans, adding other flavors or nutrients.

As we said, fruits are very important for human nutrition. Its consumption hydrates us quickly, in addition to helping the proper functioning of the digestive system. As if that were not enough, fruits do not contain fat, except in cases where they are eaten processed. Finally, in addition to providing a good number of vitamins, fruits are also rich in minerals, fiber and antioxidants. Most of the time the classification of fruits is made based on their morphological or physical characteristics. Although it is also very common that they are grouped by their nutritional contributions and even by their origin or origin.

Examples of types of fruits

Stone fruits: also known as stone fruits, this type of fruit is characterized by the fact that it contains a “stone” or, rather, a seed of considerable dimensions that is very hard. Said seed is in the center of the fruit, so it is protected by its body or pulp. Of course, some of the best examples in this regard are peaches or apricots.

Pome or pome fruits: as the name implies, this type of fruit generally comes from an enlarged receptacle. That is, a small container that thickens during the fruit’s growth period. In this way, fruits of this type usually have a few seeds inside. Examples of this type are apple and pear.

Grain fruits: these types of fruits are very similar to the one mentioned above. These are also fruits that are the result of the thickening of a receptacle or container that grows during the development or growth of the fruit. However, in this case the fruit is actually represented by small seeds that exist inside the ripe fruit. In this case we can mention figs, which contain many small seeds inside.

Fresh fruits: as its name implies, this type of fruit is characterized by the fact that it is almost always consumed shortly after its collection or harvest. Therefore, it is a fruit that has not been exposed to any industrialization process or transformation of its essential properties or traits. In this way, we can say that this is the type of fruit that we frequently consume in its “natural” or “pure” state.

Dried fruits: these fruits, unlike the fresh ones, have undergone some type of process by which they have dried, which causes their physical and in some cases nutritional characteristics to have changed. Obviously, in this case the fruits can be preserved much longer, so they can be consumed long after they have been harvested.

Climacteric fruits: these types of fruits are those that suffer a considerable increase in size thanks to the climatic conditions in which they are immersed. This process happens because fruits of this type synthesize ethylene in a particular way, which also helps them develop a specific flavor. Therefore, we can say that this type of fruit undergoes a chemical process that makes them grow. Such is the case with apples.

Non-climacteric fruits: as its name implies, this type of fruit does not undergo great changes due to the synthesis of ethylene. Therefore, this type of fruit does not undergo major structural or flavor changes during ripening, as happens with climacteric fruits. Within this type of fruit we can mention pineapple, plums, lemon, orange or mandarin.
