This game was invented by Alejandro Campos, who was wounded during the Spanish Civil War , in one of the bombings in Madrid . Finisterre , as he was also known, when he saw so many injured children like him in the hospital, he felt the need to invent a board game that would inspire those children who, due to their disability, could not play soccer, considered a national sport. , built a board game with metal rods and hand-painted painted wooden figurines , in which a football match with a wooden ball appears.
A special table was needed on which transverse axes with player-shaped levers were rotated by the players to hit a ball . This game is practiced in several countries and has been recognized as a sport by the International Olympic Committee.
Types of foosball
Two types of foosball are recognized:
- The Spaniard, with the metal dolls and with his legs open.
- The international, with plastic or wooden dolls and with legs together.
The measurements of the table vary according to the type of table football, if it is two-legged, which is not played in international competitions, it is 1.22 meters long and 0.61 meters wide. It generally has 8 rows of players, which can be made of wood, plastic or metal , mounted on horizontal metal bars.
The Spanish Federation recognizes two modes of play:
- Players with one leg.
- Players with two legs.
Ways to play
The ball manages to reach speeds of up to 120 km / h when it is competing. It is difficult to see the ball because with that speed it makes it look like a blurred image. The player is required to have good reflexes, good tact, skill, control and knowledge of game techniques. The player must know how to throw the ball, and not lose control of it when it is in motion. The player, crossed with a bar, who has possession of the ball, must pass it to the rest of the teammates until he can shoot on goal.
The team that scores the number of goals agreed by the teams, which must be determined before starting the game, is considered the winner. As in soccer, each ball that enters the goal is considered a goal, if the players of the team that scores the goal do not break any game rule to get the point. For games of great importance there are referees who determine infractions and penalties.
