Super Bomberman R Review

There was a desire to enjoy a new Bomberman and to the joy of his followers, the once hero of Hudson Soft, now owned by Konami, did not want to miss the premiere of Nintendo Switch with a video game faithful to the essence of the originals. Fun, more in its multiplayer aspect, but also with a lot of untapped potential, in this Super Bomberman R review we tell you everything that this crazy arcade game offers.

Igrew up with the Bomberman classics from the now defunct Hudson Soft , so I was especially excited to release Nintendo Switch with a new episode of this veteran franchise with 35 years of history behind it. What a disappointment. While Super Bomberman R is an enjoyable video game that is very much enjoyed in the company of friends, I can’t help but feel like this is a missed opportunity; that seeing what it costs, and it is not little, it falls short of content too quickly. You have a great time with its multiplayer, fast and direct, as in the old days, but really, the new Konami does not go beyond there, from being a simple fun that lasts as long as it lasts without adding new features and, to top it off, with some errors in yourcontrol system that weighs down the experience. It is not as accurate as it should be and this, on more occasions than desired, ends with an unexpected death.

I can not deny it. I think about the trip to E3 2017, with those more than ten hours of plane, and I smile just thinking about the crazy games that I am going to play with my battle mates. It’s Bomberman’s grace; It always has been, but this time, for one reason or another, it seems to me little. It has everything you would ask for from a video game in the saga, faithful to the original spirit, without strange inventions or anything like that … and yet it doesn’t quite convince me. It lacks something, more scenarios, more items with which to crush the rivals, or new game mechanics that exploit the full potential of the franchise. I like the bet on the classic, I insist, but it would not have been bad to introduce novelties that breathed new air into it.

Super Bomberman R: Launch Trailer

Bomb I love you bombMaking it clear that the really good thing here is the multiplayer, Super Bomberman R also offers an interesting Story Mode with more than 50 levels in which, apart from putting bombs and blowing things up, we must fulfill certain tasks that get a little out of hand. the norm: go in search of keys, flip switches, rescue allies, survive in scenarios where enemies keep popping up over and over again … relentlessly, with quick gamesIn a few minutes, Konami’s game makes you almost at once complete this nice adventure in which there is no shortage of cinematic sequences, with a fairly simple but effective cartoon style, and the fearsome bosses, who will make us experience some of the most exciting moments of the play when we reach the end of each world.

Big magnets drawing the bombs towards them? This is just one of the obstacles that you can find in the scenarios.

These duels are intense, fun and, at times, also difficult due to the variables that introduce the action of the Bomberman universe. Each one of the Dastardly Bombers , the henchmen of the evil Buggler, has a special ability that should be kept in mind to avoid being blown up. And it is not always easy. I was surprised by the harshness of these confrontations, in which the rivals do not stop moving from one place to another avoiding each and every one of our attacks. It’s very exciting!; one of the aspects that I value the most about the video game.

It has everything you would ask of a video game of the saga, faithful to the original spirit, but it does not finish convincingOf course we will not be defenseless in the face of such a threat. As in other episodes of the franchise, we have at our disposal various items that will enhance the force of the explosions, they will earn us special bombs with which to cross even any barrier that gets in our way, we will increase our movement speed, or learn to kick and throw explosives well away from our position. If you are a Bomberman veteran, you will feel at home enjoying the intense battles that Konami’s game poses.

As you can see, this is a video game that causes me mixed feelings. I have enjoyed it, and I know that I will continue doing it in the company of friends, either in the cooperative , which allows you to face the campaign together with another person, or at a competitive level , in battles in which up to eight people can take part either over the Internet, or with several Nintendo Switches connected to each other (four players can compete on the same console!). What happen? Which is short-lived fun. The imprecise control system aside, which is something that I hope will be corrected with future updates, Super Bomberman R displays all of its cards too quickly, leaving you feeling like it falls short of content.

After the fight against the Dastardly Bombers, it is time to confront gigantic robots. Some of these battles are very exciting, but others are somewhat tedious. They gave for much more!

Here at 3DJuegos we don’t usually talk about the price of a video game; we stick with what it offers, period, whatever the cost, but in this case it is difficult not to. You pay for it 49.99 euros and it hurts, because it does not seem that the contents correspond to such a high price. I like the color of its graphics, the commitment to the classic style, the design of stages, bigger than ever and with new obstacles to face; I’ve even really enjoyed the bosses! and their challenging duels to the death. Is not sufficient. I miss more maps for multiplayer (there are 8 plus 12 unlockables), also more combat options, objects with which to face the fight and, especially, more important news. What it offers is fine, but only that, good to hang out and little else.

The idea of carrying, wherever you go, a Bomberman that makes it so easy to enjoy its action in the company of up to eight people is wonderful, and at that point, Super Bomberman R more than delivers what is expected. The biggest problem with this Konami video game is that, apart from that, there is little else it has to offer. More news is missing, more content that lengthens the life of a title that, in one breath, exhausts practically all its fun. You play with it and have a good time, but the feeling that it could be so much better never leaves you.

  • Immediate fun and great multiplayer
  • The fights against the bosses
  • Control system somewhat imprecise
  • You run out of content too soon
  • Little innovative
