Stained car seats, how to clean them

Stained car seats, how to clean them with DIY remedies or specific products. Solutions based on the type of stain and the fabric of the seats.

A complete overview of cleaning stained car upholstery. We start from professional washing up to do-it-yourself cleaning.

How much does it cost to have stained car seats washed?

There are several garages that offer car seat washing , prices vary greatly depending on the car. It is one thing to have the stained seats of a city car washed and quite another thing to have the upholstery of a berlinona or suv cleaned! The asking price for washing the upholstery is generally 40 – 60 euros for urban cars (panda, punto, smart, 208 …), 60 – 80 euros for sedans and crossovers (2008, 500X, A3 …), 80 – 100 euros for SUVs and large minivans (A7, X6, Class M, X5…).

To avoid nasty surprises, when you go to the company that offers this service, always point out the stains on the seats that you want to remove. Not all companies are able to offer guarantees on results, especially when it comes to particular stains such as blood stains or rust stains, the most difficult to get rid of.

Clean stained car seats with DIY

The effectiveness of the treatment depends a lot on the stain you want to remove. Oil-stained car seats can be treated with a solution of water and baking soda, but the same do-it-yourself remedy is not effective in the case of blood-stained car seats.

The rule that always applies is: in the event of a stain, act as soon as possible! Do not let the stain stratify and above all prevent it from penetrating deeply into the fibers of the car upholstery.

If the stain on the car seats is fresh, removing it will be much easier and you can also use dry cleaning.

If the stain on the car seats is several days old and has got to dry out, your job will become much more difficult.

In the article on how to wash car seats we recommended the use of steam. It is true, steam is an excellent ally for removing stains from seats and for ordinary cleaning, however in case of stubborn stains, old well-layered halos, it is not always an effective remedy. In addition, not everyone has a machine capable of delivering steam at an optimal pressure. If you want to wash car seats with steam, remember to keep the dispensing spout 10 cm away from the upholstery, otherwise you risk causing water marks to appear.

Stained car seats, how to clean them

There are many products on the market for  washing car seats , all of which are more or less valid and offer a good degree of hygiene. Unfortunately not everyone can remove stains, especially when the stains on car seats are old. Among the various products on the market we would like to point out two that, according to the opinions of motorists, were useful for cleaning:

  • lipstick stains
  • car seats stained with oil and grease
  • car seats stained with blood
  • car seats stained with milk
  • stains from coffee and other liquids with an acidic pH (Coke and fizzy drinks …)
  • halos left by the evaporation of liquids of various kinds

These two products are of different formulations but must be used in the same way. How to remove stains from car seats?

  1. Spray the product on the entire surface of the seat and not only on the stain to be removed.
  2. Leave to act for 1 minute or for the processing times indicated on the label.
  3. Remove the residual product with a soft microfibre cloth.

Among the best products for removing stains from car upholstery we point out: Ma-Fra Pulimax, it is an active foam proposed on Amazon at a price of 10.40 euros with free shipping costs. Alternatively, there is a Meguiar’s stain remover cleaner that can always be bought on Amazon with 20.24 euros. For all the info on the products mentioned, I refer you to the Amazon reference page:
