Something up there loves me . Book by the writer Alfred Bester , 1913 – 1987 that tells a fantastic narrative story about scientists who dream of meeting and experimenting with extraterrestrials .
About the Author
Alfred Bester was born in New York in 1913 . His family was middle class. The father was a Jew and the mother a scientist Christian, but both allowed her to choose her own faith. In that sense, Bester is quite clear: ‘I chose Natural Law’, are his words.
He studied at the University of Pennsylvania and published his first stories in Thrilling Wonder Stories in the early 1940s. He then made a career as a scriptwriter for comics, radio and television, including serials such as Superman , Batman , Nick Carter , Charlie Chan , Tom Corbett and La Sombra .
In the fifties he returned to science fiction and published several stories and two of the most outstanding novels of the time, The Demolished Man and The Stars my Destiny , and also an autobiographical-inspired detective novel about the world of television, The Rat Race. . At the end of the fifties he started working for Holiday magazine , of which he became director until its closure in the seventies. After that period, he returned to the genre with works such as Computer Connection , Golem 100 and The Impostors .
He lived his entire life in New York and died in Pennsylvania in 1987 , the same year that he was awarded the Grand Master award by the sfyfwa, the American authors’ association. After his death the manuscript of an unpublished detective novel was found and, more recently, an unfinished one, which was completed for publication by Roger Zelazny .
