Synopsis

What do I do, Richard Casey, in a hospice ward? It’s all the fault of the AAATO syndrome (Someone Up There Hates You). I guess being the Incredible Dying Boy at seventeen is part of the great plan that Someone Up There came up with. But wait: I’m not dead yet. In other words, my duty is to keep life sparkling. So I spend my time scaring the pavilion visitors, partying with Uncle Phil, and playing cards. For her part, Sylvie – the beautiful fifteen-year-old from room 302 – is on the same page, although she has a truly extraordinary plan. Hey, we are boys; We are not prisoners in this hospital. In the midst of doctors, sad moms, irate dads, eccentric family members, great nurses, and even a “harpy,” we are Sylvie and me. A boy and a girl. And we want to stay alive in our own way

Review

Someone up there hates you is told in the first person by Richard (Richie) is a 17-year-old boy who lives in a hospice ward. Before that, he lived with his mother. His mother is a humble, lower-class woman who loves her son and does everything for him. Mainly what this story is about is what life is like for Richie with cancerand everything you have to suffer: How difficult it is to take a simple bath and not be able to do anything on your own or worse; see his family suffer. Then there is Sylvie, who, being the protagonist, does not appear much physically but we get to know all her attitudes well through what Richie tells us. She is a girl with a lot of personality with a high economic situation and very sociable (before her illness) who does not care what others think.
