features

The silver color is especially bright and with metallic tones; similar to gray but more cheerful. It does not have the warmth of gold , it is more of a cold metal .

The visual sensation caused by silver is generally associated with its metallic shine. Physically, this cannot be reproduced by a solid color, since this glowing effect is generated by the material that diverges the light to display brilliance according to the position of the object.

In addition to this, there is no existing mechanism that can reproduce metallic or fluorescent colors on a computer . Consequently in art metallic paint is used that shines like silver metal .

It usually symbolizes wealth, as well as gold. It can be glamorous and distinguished. The colored silver can be natural, elegant and earthy; it can be used just like gray when using metallic inks but it is recommended to apply it in small amounts to accentuate and contrast. When combined with other colors, silver can accentuate the elegant, industrial or technological look.

Etymology

The word comes from the Latin term platus, which meant “flat” and later “metallic sheet”. In the Iberian Peninsula the term specified reference to metal. Other examples are prata ( Portuguese ) and plata (Catalan).

Historically, the inhabitants of the islands of the Aegean Sea discovered silver and the color white with an imperishable shine and insensitive to fire so astonished them that they attributed the creation to the Moon , as opposed to the Sun that would have created gold .

Physical applications

Amplify the effects of other colors, effective for meditation to discover creative imagination and apply it. Stimulates and balances feminine energies, and particularly the yin meridians.

Symbolism

  • Not the wedding anniversary . 25 is known as ” silver wedding ” and guests are expected to bring gifts of this color.
  • A silver medal is customary to give second places in various types of competition.
  • A “silver age” is a name given to a particular period in history, typically less important or later than a “golden age”.
  • The iridocyte cells are those that are responsible for giving the body of the fish the silver color .

Meaning

  • Silver is the color of the moon , which is always changing.
  • It is related to the feminine and emotional part, the sensitive aspects and the mind.
  • Silver balances, harmonizes and is a color that helps to cleanse the interior.

Silver color keywords : stability, sensitivity, versatility, cerebral, independence, peace, tenacity.

The silver colored individual is the most idealistic of all. His mind always finds something to be busy with and that is why sometimes he ends up dreaming of absolutely imaginary and impossible situations or things. He has the gift of creativity and a mental power is very strong, but he lacks knowing how to channel it correctly.

He can become a very mystical and spiritual person, only most of the time he will not be able to materialize the things of the spirit and make his discoveries something more practical. You will enjoy everything that makes you think and imagine and could be a good storyteller of stories or a good writer of fantasy .

His biggest problem is that he often loses his way with reality, so that all his dreams and imaginations are impossible to achieve. You must understand that dreams are to be achieved so it is preferable that you use that energy in something materializable.

Plating process

There are various silvering methods that differ in the quality of the finish and the surfaces to be treated. Some are in disuse.

Chemical precipitation

Based on the Tollens reagent. In disuse at an industrial level.

Amalgam

Similar to gilding by fire , a silver amalgam was used and by heating the evaporation of part of the mercury was achieved. In disuse due to mercury toxicity .

Vapor deposition

Modern aluminum plating is done by placing the part to be plated in a vacuum chamber where the aluminum is heated to close to evaporation temperature to make it sublime. Heating is carried out electrically by means of nichrome coils or by induction in a ceramic crucible. On the contrary, an attempt is made to keep the objects to be coated at a relatively low temperature.

In a vacuum, the hot aluminum vapor atoms travel in a straight line, see the kinetic theory of gases. When they hit the surface of the object, they cool and settle, the mechanism is similar to that used in cold traps or steam condensation on bathroom mirrors.

Some mirror manufacturers evaporate a layer of quartz on the mirror , while others expose it to pure oxygen or air in a furnace so that a hard, transparent layer of aluminum oxide will form . The thickness of the layer is controlled by en process time.

Galvanic coating

The articles are immersed in a galvanic lining (after pre-treatment) in a silver electrolyte and an electric current is applied which deposits a layer of silver on the surface. To further improve the surface properties often followed by post-treatment.

To speed up the process, the ornaments must be shaken in hot water. Factory in Lauscha, Germany

Plating is one of the oldest applications of electroplating. The first patent on the issue, Patent 8447, in England, the 24 of July of 1838 and 25 of March of 1840 of Messrs. Elkington GR and H. Elkington.8 Already in 1842 there was a connection and a license agreement with Charles Christofle & Co., Paris.9 And starting in the 1870s , galvanizing became popular, even among German silver plate makers
