Secrets and Tricks for Newbies to PUBG

Secrets and Tricks for Newbies to PUBG

PUBG can seem daunting at first, especially for new players, so below are some basic things to know. And of course, some useful tips to help you get comfortable before diving into complex tactics.

Essentials: setup and controls

  1. Removing weapons (press X on PC) can increase movement speed by 6%.
  2. Take off your shoes during the warm-up! Running barefoot will be at the same speed as in shoes, but will be significantly quieter on most surfaces.
  3. The vehicle must not be in motion to refuel it, but you can also refuel from the car by right-clicking on the canister in your inventory.
  4. Pay attention to the markers on the map and indicate the exact directions (numbers, as well as north / south / east / west directions) when playing as a team.
  5. Stay in voice chat, but it is advisable to set up your chat one way. So it is possible to listen to opposing teams who have not configured the privacy of their chats.
  6. Remember to switch the rate of fire with the B key or the left arrow key.
  7. There are not only two, but also a third type of sight. Sight from the bottom, more accurate sight from the hip (hold the right mouse button – RMB), as well as aimed fire (press RMB). It is also possible to initially change the setting to hold RMB, rather than constantly switching on / off.

Highlights: strategies and priorities

  1. Big cities are the most dangerous places to start, although better equipment and weapons can be found there. For greater success, choose small areas or buildings right on the edge of the skydiving range, or choose other strategies for getting your gear that you can find in the Erangel map article.
  2. A key item to find right away is the Assault Rifle. It will come in handy in any situation, as well as a bulletproof vest, helmet, backpack and medical items. It’s best to keep the level of these items as high as possible.
  3. At the start, all doors will be closed. If you see a door that is open, it means that someone has already been there. Leaving the door unlocked is a sign that someone has already been there.
  4. The fall deals damage, which depends on how high the jump is. Higher jump means more damage.
  5. If you are within range of shooting and do not see from which direction they are shooting, it is better not to fall to the ground – this will only make you a good target for your opponent. Better run in a zigzag direction until you can hide. Crossing the hill is a classic strategy in this case, as well as just driving away (leave as quickly as possible).
  6. If you are not in a hurry, then before picking up the weapon, check the building for the presence of enemies. A good trap is to throw an object on the ground and then open fire in the back.
  7. If you are fighting off many opponents at once, then ignore those who have already fallen. They cannot get up until they are rescued, so those who are still attacking are more priority.
  8. Transport will help to cover a long distance, but due to the noise it will attract a lot of attention. Use it wisely.
  9. The vehicle may roll off a hill or explode on impact at high speed. Park away from the slopes and if you have an accident, then get away from this vehicle as quickly as possible.
  10. Not all scopes can be used on any type of weapon. For example, you cannot use the 8x scope on the M16 as an exception for balance purposes. Also, it will not work to put 8x on SMG.
  11. Explore how much damage different helmets can withstand. The Kar98 is the most common sniper rifle that kills instantly, with one headshot, especially if your helmet is level 2 or lower, but a level 3 helmet can take that shot. Before you open fire, pay attention to the helmets of your rivals, perhaps this does not make sense.
  12. From the very beginning of the game, pistols are practically useless. It is better to keep only one and then if it is a P18C – automatic pistol that looks like an SMG or there is no better weapon yet. Pistols are also not recommended due to their ammo. They take up a lot of inventory space.
  13. High tier equipment that is damaged protects much worse than new lower tier equipment. This can be understood and compared from the numbers next to the equipment itself in the inventory.
  14. Try to avoid bridges like leprosy, even if you really need to cross it to get to a safe area. Bridge trolls love to sit on them (opponents who wait on bridges to kill opponents), especially if you just need to cross it. Get there early, swim across or look for a boat!
  15. Try to move around more often, even when looking for gear or relaxing. At least a little. This will prevent opponents from catching you by surprise, which happens often. Get up or periodically move in different directions.

More tips for controls and keyboard shortcuts

  1. “Alt” or RB on Xbox will help you look around without making any movements – a good feature when ambushing or skydiving.
  2. You can dive while swimming using “C” on the keyboard (B on the Xbox) and rise to the surface of the water holding the spacebar (“A” on the Xbox).
  3. You can change the place in the car with “Ctrl + 1/2/3/4/5/6”, and with “Ctrl + 1” you can return to the driver’s seat. On Xbox, press A to change seats and hold to return to the driver’s seat.
  4. On the PC it is possible to select automatic running by clicking on “=”.
  5. While aiming with “Q” you can lean to the left, and with “E” – to the right. On Xbox, this is done with sticks. Use them to peek around corners and shoot in a minimal manner. Very often high level players lean forward to make them difficult to hit.
  6. Holding Shift or the left trigger on Xbox can speed up the movement of the car.
  7. For more aggressive turning in vehicles, use the handbrake. And for a complete stop – the spacebar or Y on the Xbox.
  8. Control motorcycles in the air by holding the spacebar + left Ctrl combination.
  9. Switch between first and third person games using V on PC or RB on Xbox.
  10. You can hold your breath while aiming with Shift or LB on Xbox (ADS only).
  11. Follow the trajectory of the bullets while aiming by holding LMB (left mouse button) instead of clicking on it when shooting.
  12. Change the distance of the sight during zeroing (if possible for the weapon / scope) using the Page up and Page down keys or using the D-pad on the Xbox.
  13. You can switch directly to the grenade using the G key. You can also change weapons by scrolling the mouse wheel, and on the Xbox – by holding the right trigger.
  14. Medicinal items are assigned 7, 8, 9, or 0 by default. So you don’t have to open your inventory every time to use them. On Xbox, hold down the D-pad for instant healing, and press it repeatedly to select the item you want.
  15. To throw a grenade from below, hold down the left mouse button and then press the right button.
  16. You can turn off the visual interface completely, especially if it gets in the way, by pressing Ctrl + U.

Advanced PUBG tips for using first aid kits and grenades, as well as surviving in combat and in the final ten

Battlefield Movement Strategies

  1. With the release of version 1.0, there is no need to learn the squat jump, as the high jump has a higher priority. This means that it is worth switching the “Vault” command to something other than the regular jump button (space), because there are certain points that can only be dealt with in the old proven way. Learn how high you can jump and use when necessary.
  2. Climb onto the roof from the balcony using a jump from your haunches, after opening the door, jumping on it, and then on to the roof itself. Great for snipers!
  3. You can also make more difficult jumps between rooftops by squatting onto railings or other tall structures and running over them.
  4. You can shoot the M16 like an automatic weapon, using its explosive firing mode, controlling the recoil and timing of the clicks to increase the speed of the fight.

How to get the most out of your medical supplies

  1. There are only two ways to recover up to 100%. This is a very rare medicine that heals in 10 seconds. There are also boosters (like energy drinks and pain relievers) that heal over time.
  2. Bandages and first aid kits will restore up to 75% health, but first aid kits work instantly, somewhere in 7 seconds after use, while bandages require multiple use and up to 1 minute of time. Bandages are best used early in the game and in a safe place, and save first aid kits for the final battles.
  3. There is an optimal way that allows you to get more health from using bandages. When using a bandage, your health bar will increase in dashes, changing from red to white. On the third health regeneration dash, start using the next bandage to make the most of your time and resources.
  4. By the way, when the timer of the used healing item reaches 0.5 seconds, you can start moving without canceling its effect, and now you can use the healing items as a passenger in vehicles, but only when the vehicle is stationary (so pay attention when your buddy crashes into trees and hills …)

Tips for using grenades and inventory

  1. Different items take up different space in the inventory: a first aid kit is larger than bandages, for example. But this also applies to grenades: fragmentation grenades are smaller than smoke or flash grenades.
  2. You can carry more by placing items in your gear and load ammo into your weapon. Then they do not take up inventory space. If you want to make room for a frag grenade, then arm yourself with a smoke or stun grenade. But be careful, if your inventory is full, you won’t be able to add a new item without using or dropping something!
  3. You can put the pin you pulled back into the frag grenade in Battlegrounds. To do this, open your inventory and drag it from the grenade compartment in the lower right corner to the storage slot on the left.

Combat tips: how and when to hide or take part

  1. Hiding constantly and thus breaking through the last few players is a very good strategy, but it won’t help you master the intricacies of combat. If you want to learn how to feel weapons and fight, then play several games, appearing in busy places. It will pay off in the long run.
  2. If you want to navigate your way to victory by stealth, then it is best to hide in the sea on a boat, ideally behind a cliff where no one is likely to go looking – this is a good option to avoid detection. With a certain amount of fuel, you can speed up your travel to many safe areas on the map.
  3. Jumping during melee combat gives a greater chance of hitting an opponent in the head, and yes, headshots do significantly more damage.
  4. If someone attacks you with their bare hands, always fight back. If you manage to land one or two blows to the head, then it is possible to win the battle, even if the enemy has the advantage of an initial attack on you!
  5. If you don’t want to get practice, but just want to win, then just avoid direct fights with opponents. The basic rule is to only engage in combat if you are confident that you can win it or if you have failed to escape. This rule also applies to sniper shooting – do not shoot unless you are sure you can kill, otherwise you will simply give yourself away.
  6. Let’s talk about escape. This is easier than you might think. Zig-zag if you are on foot, and think of the retreat in terms of deviating from a straight line. You will only be persecuted if this is the case. Especially if you are driving a vehicle, then it makes no sense to rush into battle, if you are hurt and your health drops, just step on the gas!
  7. Bad gear is not the end of the world, so don’t be greedy as it is how you adapt to what you have is important. If you only find a shotgun or an SMG, then it is better to settle inside buildings and enclosed spaces. If you have a crossbow and a good scope, then avoid buildings such as the plague and look for a place for a sniper. All that is needed at this moment is one kill to get better equipment and weapons!
  8. If you hid in one of the small wooden houses and noticed an approaching enemy, then jumping out of the hut and shooting at him will often be better than waiting. Most likely, the enemy will understand that someone is there, or they will try to remove you by throwing a grenade, or they will simply shoot at the wooden door. Better to catch the enemy off guard.

PUBG Fighting Tips: When Fight Can’t Be Avoided

  1. Better to take the time to learn to bend over or “peek” around corners. Use the Q and E keys (or press the console sticks) during combat and note that leaning to the right (using the camera above your right shoulder) opens less of your body than the opposite direction.
  2. If you know that a firefight is coming, or you have to run through unsafe open areas, use any “accelerating” object. It could be pain relievers or energy drinks because healing on time and top speed can be crucial.
  3. Tall grass is only visible at a distance of less than 150 meters, and players are visible from a much greater distance. That is, if you rely on tall grass for cover, then a sniper can easily spot you from a great distance.
  4. Use the Alt key (or hold RB and move the left stick on Xbox) to look around while you’re in cover. Ideal for ambushes, but you need to be careful as your character still moves a little even when you’re not moving, which can give you away when pretending to be a bush.
  5. Healing items like first aid kits are ideal baits. Place something on the floor in the middle of the room, and the opponents who enter will assume that the building is not dangerous, which will allow them to be quickly removed.
  6. Find out which way the door opens when you are about to settle in the building. Hide behind the door so that rivals need to enter, turn around and close the door behind them to notice you. This will give you a chance to kill before they do.
  7. And vice versa for those who enter buildings. You need to clear the premises, check everything 360 degrees around you immediately upon entering, and do not think that nobody’s objects mean that it is safe there!
  8. Grenades are ideal for clearing small huts (if you can throw them into small windows), and for buildings too, if you think there is someone there.
  9. Save the smoke grenades better: they will give away your location, and the smoke works differently for both sides: it can hide something from your sight, but also at this time it can be completely visible to the enemy, and vice versa. Best used for cover or distraction in situations where there is no choice.
  10. A down scope will be more beneficial than hip fire in almost any situation. Shotguns and SMGs are good when shooting from the hip, as their spread is much less.

How to win the final round

  1. When you get to the small safe zones already among the remaining 10 or 15 players, then you need to try to quickly kill everyone you see. If the opponents survive, then there is a chance that you will face them later and there is no guarantee that they will not try to harm you.
  2. There are two main strategies for getting into the final zone. If you can get there one of the first, then do it as quickly as possible and take a position in which you will be hidden from at least one flank: it can be a small stone or an inner wall without a window.
  3. If you realize that someone is already there, then it will be better to wait at a distance before moving forward. By looking at the blue circle you can play around the edges of the area. Someone is probably watching your movement when you get close, but since the safe zone is small, and about a dozen people are left, and you are far away, then the opponents have other rivals who are a priority to kill.
  4. The ability to navigate the terrain is extremely important here. Be sure to study the map as best you can – our Erangel Map, Miramar Map, and the best PUBG travel guides can help with that – and consciously choose where to go, not on momentum.
  5. If you find a safe place before everyone else and have some good long-range weapon, then try to settle on any building that is outside the safe zone (this means camping in some safe place on buildings, not in them! ) Keep a close eye on all the doors and windows, and when the blue circle begins to narrow, the opponents will have to come out of cover, and you can remove them.
  6. Trees are not a good cover. The forest is a good visual cover if you need to move long distances, but it’s easy to forget that cover behind a narrow tree still leaves you open on three sides – and visibility is severely impaired anyway by the pillar in front of you. This is only a last resort!
  7. When the final three remain, and you are not found, then stay there. Do not engage in a fight unless victory is absolutely guaranteed, because the other two can still easily injure and / or kill each other, and you do not have to risk yourself. Opponents will in any case give away their positions in the process, which means that you will find out where they are before the final battle.
