Screenshot routes

Depending on the operating system or desktop environment

The capture process can vary:

Windows

It has shortcuts to take screenshots in a simple way, on the one hand the ImpPnt button on the keyboard normally located at the end of the F keys. Pressing it will save the capture to the clipboard, although it has not been physically saved anywhere it is in the virtual memoryof the computer. In addition, the combination of ALT + Print Screen captures only the image of the currently active window. Then a tool opens that allows you to edit the images, generally Paint since it is a default tool and the capture is pasted through the already known routes, but if before copying, the copy option is used for another object, in the Virtual memory of the computer will be lost capture. Another shortcut is when you press Win + ImpPnt, the screenshot will automatically be saved to your computer as a .png image, and stored in the Images \ Screenshots folder . Once this is done and you can use the program to edit you want to manipulate.

Windows versions

  • Windows 7: It is possible to take screenshots through the program “ Clippings ”, which is installed by default. Windows 7 also has the “Recording User Actions” (psr) application that allows you to record a screenshot each time the user presses the mouse button.
  • Windows 8: In addition to containing the program “Clippings”, the capture function is improved, by pressing the Windows + Print Pant or Windows + Print Screen or Pet Sis keys, you get a screenshot that is automatically saved, creating a folder called “Screenshots” in the “Images” folder. Where the captures will take a name “Screenshot”, with a consecutive numbering “(#)” and a default “.png” format , resulting in the name “Screenshot (#). Png”.
  • Windows RT: You have to hold down the “Windows” button, located below the screen. At the same time, press the “Volume Down” button on the left side of the tablet . The screen should blur for one second , to indicate that a capture has been taken. The image is saved in the Image library , in a new folder called “Screen Captures”.
  • Windows Phone 8: Whether the mobile islocked or not , the Windows + Power buttons must be pressed simultaneously (Power + VOL + in case the Windows key is hidden by the screen). The captures are saved in their original size in the photo application, inside the “Images” album .
  • Windows 10: It has the Microsoft Edge browser that also has the function of creating screenshots and starting to edit them instantly. To activate them, you must be browsing the web page you want to capture, and look for the Create a web note icon that appears to the right of the navigation bar. º

Linux

Taking a screenshot in Linux is not as straightforward a process as it is in Windows or OS X. This is because there is no universal screenshot utility in Linux. Each distribution has a different screenshot function. This is why most include at least one program that can take screenshots and there are many other programs available in case you don’t have one installed.

Android

In Android from version 3.0 Honeycomb (Operating System only for tablets) it is possible to take the screenshot by selecting the option in the bottom bar, since version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is done by pressing the volume down and power buttons at the same time for a couple of seconds (may vary by device and brand). All mobiles with Android operating system have this option, although each manufacturer ( Samsung , Huawei , LG , Sony , among others) uses a different method to allow users to take screenshots.

Universal method

The universal method of taking a screenshot on Android works on practically all smartphones and tablets on the market , the procedure to follow is as follows:

  • Open the content you want to save in the capture on your mobile. It can be a WhatsAppconversation , a news in the browser, a text note among others, Android allows capturing any content.
  • Then the Volume Down button and the Power button are pressed and held together, both buttons are held down together for a few seconds.
  • While the two buttons are held down, an animation appears on the screen (usually the sides of the screen light up). At that time, the two buttons must be released. And this capture is already made.

Mac

  • On Mac OS systems, pressing Command + ⇧ Shift + 3 gives a screenshot that is saved to the desktop.
  • With Command + Option + ⇧ Shift + 3 it is saved to the clipboard, and can be pasted into a document later.
  • The same combinations with the 4 key (instead of 3) instead of saving the entire screen, allows you to select with the mouse the part you are interested in.

Screen capture

Application specifically designed to take the computer screen and store it in image or video files. They can range from simple image grabbers to powerful video and sound capture tools . Currently there are several not only designed for PC, but for mobiles and tables. Example of this we have Screener , an APK for android devices that allows you to use screenshots in a more creative way.

Some applications

  • Awesome screenshot: This application, free to download, allows capturing the entire screen or a portion of it, then editing them by adding arrows, boxes, rounds and even handwriting of whatever you want to highlight. It is one of the most used in Windows, since it is easy to use, very dynamic and allows you to store images in unique projects, to then share them on social networks . It is also available for iPhone and iPad, but not for MacBook. Once an action has been taken, it is difficult to correct it. It only allows you to undo all the action, you have to start again.
  • Evernote Web Clipper: Its main function is calendar , but it has a screen capture function: the Web Clipper . very easy to use and its free version is quite limited. It is necessary to download it to be able to use it, and it works for both Windows and Mac, although it is not free to download the Web Clipper to a mobile phone.
  • Movavi: One of the most complete that exists on the market . It is used not only for taking screenshots, but it also has multiple functions for recording, including conversations on Skype . It also allows you to choose the format in which to save the files , and even to schedule captures of determined periods of time. The software needs to be downloaded , and it gives a seven-day trial, although its paid version is expensive.
  • ScreenShot: This application allows you to take online screenshots, upload them on the page or download them as a file, although sometimes their operation fails. In addition, you can download the software, very easy to use, it only gives a three-day trial and then you have to pay to have all the functions of the program.
  • Screen Recorder: It can only be used with Windows, but it is very dynamic and complete. You need to download the software, which can be done for free, but it has a pro version, logically much more complete. This application not only allows you to take screenshots, but also allows you to make gifs, record games and podcasts, and even Skype conversations, doing so takes up a lot of space on your computer.
  • Jing: It is very similar to Screen Recorder, only it also allows its use for Mac. You can choose an area of the screen for captures or to make gifs, with more than simple use. Once done, you can save the file to your desktop or share it through Screencast.com. Uploading it to the page makes the task easier when sharing the file, but at the same time it limits the size of the file you want to save.
  • LiceCap: Compatible with Windows and Mac. It is not only for taking screenshots, but for making gifs easily. Perhaps it is the simplest of all. It does not have a downloadable mobile version, it can only be used on the computer.
