Solving technical problems and adjusting the graphics of the new horror movie based on Giger and Lovecraft
Upon release, Scorn received mixed reviews. Most admit that the authors managed to create an oppressive atmosphere and maintain the visual style of biomechanics based on Giger’s work and with elements of Lovecraft. However, the passage leaves mixed impressions due to non-obvious puzzles and imperfect technical condition. We published a guide on the Scorn story campaign separately , and in this article we will analyze the technical part of the game: bugs and graphics performance.
What kind of computer is needed for Scorn (system requirements)?
We studied the game tests on different hardware at different resolutions and came to the conclusion that the official system requirements are more likely to be calculated at 1440p (2560×1440):

For 1080p @ 30 FPS game play, max. preset (according to tests):

Scorn technical issues
How to change the language (into Russian) / where to download the crack
You can change the language in the game settings ( Settings > Language ).
Won’t start / freezes on startup / black screen / vcruntime140_1.dll error
- Download and install RuntimePack. This is a complete set of all libraries necessary to run games.
- Verify the integrity of the game files on Steam:
- start Steam;
- go to the “Library” section;
- right– click on the game name ( Scorn ) in the list on the left and open the properties;
- in the “Local files” tab, click “Verify integrity of game files”;
- wait for the process to complete.
III. Disable antivirus , MSI Afterburner , RivaTuner and other similar software.
“Not enough memory” error
Your PC is running out of RAM. The best solution is to increase the amount of RAM to at least 8 gigabytes. Increasing the swap file probably won’t help. Also, be sure to close your browser before launching any game. Especially if it has a large number of open tabs.

This is a problem with Windows system files. Some of them may be damaged. Perform a system restore or reinstall Windows. To check and repair corrupted system files, open a command prompt and type “sfc /scannow” (without quotes).

Reinstall or update your video card drivers. It is advisable to do a clean install to reset unsuccessful settings.
Scorn slows down / lags / low FPS
- Update video card drivers:
- NVIDIA GeForce. The site itself will select the appropriate drivers. Just click “Search” and then “Download Now”. After the download is complete, run the downloaded file and follow the instructions in the installer.
- AMD Radeon. Scroll down to Search for your product and select your graphics card under Graphics . Click the Submit button. On the page that opens, click LMB on your version of Windows and click “Download”. Once the download is complete, run the downloaded file and follow the instructions in the installer.
Important: Be sure to restart your computer after updating your drivers.
- Lower the graphics quality of the game. First of all: shadows and post-processing. Let’s take a closer look at the graphics options below.
Graphics settings in Scorn / how to increase FPS (frame rate) in the game
Next, we will analyze in detail all the graphic settings of Scorn. Where applicable, we have indicated in brackets the maximum impact on current performance as a percentage.
Testing was conducted on a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card in conjunction with a Core i5-10400F processor, the game was installed on an SSD.
- “Display Mode”. In most cases it is better to choose full screen. So the system will allocate maximum resources to the game itself, without maintaining the desktop. And for streamers, full-screen borderless windowed mode is suitable – it will allow you to easily move the mouse cursor between two monitors (however, the performance will be slightly lower).
- “Permission”. Some people like to lower the resolution to increase performance. But this is too radical a way that spoils all the graphics at once – it is better to lower individual options further. And here set the native resolution of your display (for example, 1920×1080).
- Image sharpening due to technology from AMD (works on any video card). It is important to understand that sharpening does NOT make the image more detailed.
- “Sharpness”. This sets the specific level of sharpening if FidelityFX is enabled above. Adjust by eye.
- Motion Blur. Slight effect of speed in the form of motion blur of the camera and some moving objects. Doesn’t really affect performance. If you don’t like the effect, you can turn it off.
- “AT. synchronization”. In first-person games, in most cases it is better to turn it off. We discussed vertical synchronization in detail in a separate article.
- “Maximum FPS” You can limit to 60 if you have a weak processor. Or do not limit, which will make the input delay lower.
- “Visual effects” (up to 10%). Lighting and shaders (interaction of surfaces with light). We tested on a modern video card and the performance at high quality decreased by no more than 5% compared to low. On older video cards, the difference may be greater (even if they are powerful enough).
- “Post-processing” (up to 20%). Color correction and various cinematic effects. There are many such interactions with the picture in Scorn, so this is one of the most resource-intensive settings in the game. On older video cards, you will have to set the quality to low. On relatively current ones (GeForce RTX 2000 and up, Radeon RX 5000 and up), depending on power, try medium or high.
- “Shadows” (up to 15%). In dark corridors, it has little effect on performance, but the more light there is in the location, the higher the resource intensity of shadows. Set the quality to low or medium.
- “Textures” (up to 6 GB VRAM). Doesn’t affect performance if you have enough video memory. High quality textures require 6 gigabytes. If you have less, downgrade to medium (4 GB) or low (3 GB or less).
- “Smoothing” (up to 5%). From the configuration file, it becomes clear that Scorn uses the TAA anti-aliasing method. It is not too resource-intensive for most video cards that are still alive, but it slightly “blurs” the image. To avoid this, try setting the quality to high or medium / low and additionally enable FidelityFX (see the beginning of the chapter).
