Technical problems and graphics settings for the main ideological successor of Left 4 Dead
Opinions about Back 4 Blood divided. Nevertheless, it is popular on Steam . The release was not without bugs, but the system requirements were not too high. In this guide, we provide solutions to the most common technical problems and give tips on how to optimize the Left 4 Dead successor for a slower PC.
What computer do you need for Back 4 Blood (system requirements)?
We studied the tests of the game on different hardware in different resolutions and came to the conclusion that the official system requirements are not far from the truth. But they lack recommendations for playing at 1440p and 4K – we added them based on the tests we studied.
Official minimum system requirements (1080p @ 30 FPS, low preset):
- Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit only!).
- Processor: Intel Core i5-6600 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600.
- Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 570.
- Operative memory: 8 gigabytes.
Official Recommended System Requirements (1080p @ 60 FPS, High Preset):
- Operating system: Windows 10 x64.
- Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 7 1800X.
- Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon RX 590.
- RAM: 12 gigabytes.

technical problems Back 4 Blood
Doesn’t start on Windows 7
The game is not designed to run on operating systems older than Windows 10. In addition, a 64-bit OS is required.
Doesn’t start / hangs on startup / black screen / vcruntime140_1.dll error
- Download and install RuntimePack. This is a complete set of all the libraries you need to run games.
- Check the integrity of the game files on Steam:
start Steam;
go to the “Library” section;
right-click on the name of the game (Back 4 Blood) in the list on the left and open the properties;
in the “Local files” tab, click “Check the integrity of game files”;
wait for the process to complete.
III. Disable MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner and other similar software.
Anti-cheat problems / error 30005/30007 / fatal error / game crashes
- Disable all programs running in the background.
- If it does not help, then check your computer for viruses using the free utility Web CureIt!
- A complete reinstallation of the game can also help.
No connection / failed to connect to servers / connection error / cannot log into the game / cannot find players / error “Hydra” is in maintenance mode “
The game servers are overloaded or technical work is underway. Just try again after a while (sometimes the next day). You can find out the status of the servers on the official Twitter account of the game.
Not enough memory error
Your PC is out of RAM. The best solution is to increase the amount of RAM to at least 8 gigabytes. Increasing the paging file probably won’t help. Also, be sure to close your browser before launching any game. Especially if it has a large number of open tabs.
Error 0xc0000001 / 0xc0000005 in Back 4 Blood
This is a problem with Windows system files. Some of them can be damaged. Perform a system restore or reinstall Windows. To check and repair corrupted system files, open a command prompt and enter the command “sfc / scannow” (without quotes).
Error 0xc000007b in Back 4 Blood
Reinstall or update your graphics card drivers. It is advisable to do a clean install to reset unsuccessful settings.
Back 4 Blood slows down / lags / low FPS
- Update the drivers for the video card:
- NVIDIA GeForce. The site itself will select the appropriate drivers. Just hit Search and then Download Now. After the download is complete, run the downloaded file and follow the instructions of the installer.
- AMD Radeon. Scroll down to Search for your product and select your graphics card in the Graphics section. Click the “Submit” button. On the page that opens, click LMB on your version of Windows and click “Download”. When the download is complete, run the downloaded file and follow the instructions of the installer.
- Important: Be sure to restart your computer after updating your drivers.
- Reduce the quality of the shadows and enable AMD FSR(more on the graphics options below).
How to adjust graphics in Back 4 Blood / how to increase FPS (frame rate)
- “Windowed mode”. The “Full screen without” frame mode is useful for easier access to OBS or other supporting software. But it is usually better to choose full screen mode so that the system allocates as many resources as possible to the game itself, without maintaining the desktop.
- “Screen resolution”. Here, the best option would be the native resolution for your display (most often 1920×1080). This will make the picture as clear as possible.
- “Scaling”. AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS are available in the game. The latter works only on GeForce RTX video cards, and the former works on absolutely any. But DLSS gives a better result. In any case, scaling always increases the load on the CPU. Therefore, if you have a weak CPU, then it is better to skip scaling altogether.
- “Motion blur”. As in most online games, anti-aliasing and blurring when turning the camera only interferes with looking around – it’s better to turn it off.
- “Chromatic aberration”. Another questionable effect that makes the image look dirtier. Chromatic aberration is a light green-red outline of silhouettes of characters and other objects, in the style of old film. But if you like this styling, then leave it – it still does not affect performance.
- “Adaptive quality visual effects.” In the heat of battle, it is not so important how spectacular and high-tech special effects you see. Therefore, it is better to turn on adaptive quality so that the game itself adjusts the resolution of such effects. This will allow you to maintain a stable 60 FPS during shootouts.
- “Line of sight”. Many people like to increase this parameter. However, while this will allow you to see more in front of you, it will also reduce performance, as more objects and surfaces will fall into the frame. In addition, the often increased angle of view distorts the frame (the effect of an ultra-wide-angle camera).
Shot from Far Cry 5: New Dawn, but the essence, we think, is clear
- “Vertical sync”. Limits the maximum number of FPS to hertz of the screen, and also equalizes the frame time for maximum smoothness. The latter gives rise to input lag – a deterioration in the responsiveness of management. Therefore, it is better to limit the FPS through the next parameter, and not enable vertical sync.
- “FPS Limit”. You can put 60 units here to reduce the load on the processor. This will increase the smoothness of your footage without sacrificing responsiveness.
- “Post-processing quality”. Post-processing is about color correction, sharpness, contrast and other cosmetics. Traditionally, post-processing does not affect performance too much if you have a relatively modern graphics card (GTX 900 / R9 300 and newer).
- “Quality of textures”. Responsible for the clarity of the surfaces of objects. This parameter should be reduced only if you have low video memory. And if 6 gigabytes or more, then set the maximum quality. In this case, owners of 4 gigabytes are better off slightly lowering.
- “Effects quality”. If you have enabled the adaptive quality of visual effects above, then this parameter can be set to the maximum or slightly lower. And if not included, then set the average quality.
- “Shadow quality”. Responsible for the saturation and detail of the shadows. Traditionally, shadows are one of the most resource-intensive parameters. Fortunately, the average quality already looks good. Therefore, this option is suitable for most players.
- Vegetation quality. Better to downgrade to medium quality or even lower so that the FPS does not sag when indoor levels change to outdoors.
- “Graphics API”. DirectX 12 works well only on the most modern hardware. Therefore, most gamers are better off using DirectX 11.
- Dynamic Resolution. It is best not to use this option, as AMD FSR works on most graphics cards and gives better results than simply stretching the render to the screen resolution. Better yet, use NVIDIA DLSS (if you have a GeForce RTX).
Luckily, Back 4 Blood looks good even at low settings mixed with medium. So don’t worry if you’ve had to downgrade many of the graphics options.
