The architect of the project, Joseph Chen (its President and CEO), founded Xiaonei in 2005 , which began operating as an instant messaging service for Cell Phone . In 2009 , however, and making the project’s ambition clear, the name of Xiaonei (within the school) was changed to Renren (everyone). Since 2010 , the company has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange . Its headquarters are in Beijing .
Renren emerged victorious from her duel with Kaixin001, a social network with similar characteristics, against which she even lost a legal battle for her online domain .
