Programs when Windows starts: how to manage them

Have you ever wondered what happens between the moment you press the power button on your PC and the moment you start using it? Do you want to disable those annoying programs that open themselves when you start your PC? You are in the right place, because today we will answer these questions in a clear and simple way!

Before going to practice, I want you to understand how your computer thinks: because it’s nice to understand what happens when you click compulsively on certain keys

What happens when I turn on the PC

The computer is a machine made of many electrical circuits that connect the various components: the processor, the video card, the memories, etc. In order for all these components to work, and work together, someone needs to be given precise orders. This “someone” is the operating system. When you turn on the computer, it is loaded into memory, along with the drivers of the various devices.

What are the tasks of the operating system?

The operating system is a program that acts as an intermediary between the user and the computer hardware.

It also has other very important purposes

  • Resource Assignor: Manages machine resources as efficiently as possible.
  • Control program: checks that all programs and instructions are executed correctly.
  • Make the calculation system easierto use and program.
  • Provide services.

How to disable programs on startup in Windows?

After the operating system and drivers have been successfully loaded into memory, all those programs that are set to automatically run after power on are executed. You can always find some of these in the bar at the bottom right of Windows: in the area where notifications always appear, to understand each other.

You will find the other programs by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL , and selecting the ” Task Management ” item.

Once you open the ” Task Management “, just go to the ” Start ” tab , and here you will see all the ” Enabled ” or ” Disabled ” programs for automatic start. By right clicking on one of these programs, you can choose whether to enable or disable its automatic execution.

Why is it important to check programs at startup?

To optimize your PC . Sometimes the computer starts very slowly because of too many programs set to start automatically. Disabling what you think is superfluous can decrease your computer startup times!

You may have guessed it also by reading the wording ” Impact on startup ”

How to add programs when Windows starts?

Now that you have disabled unnecessary programs, do you want to automatically launch your favorite program, but it is not in the list of programs in the “Task Manager” panel? Don’t panic ! Follow these simple steps:

  • Select the Start button, and look for the program you want to run on startup;
  • Right click on the program you just found, and click on “Other”, then click on “Open file path”;
  • Now you will be in the folder where the link to start the application is located;
  • Press “Windows + R” on the keyboard, and type “shell: startup” in the window that will open, and give the OK;
  • In this way you opened the folder that can contain the programs at startup: copy the link in this folder, close everything, restart your PC, and you’re done!

NB: If the program you have chosen will not have the “Open file path” option, it means that the app cannot be run at startup.

Simple, isn’t it? Nothing difficult! If you have questions, or doubts, also on the introductory part, we will be happy to answer your questions, and clarify / deepen your every request! Bye!
