Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Guide, Tips and Tricks

We help you master the new classic role-playing game for PC and consoles from Obsidian Entertainment.

Welcome to our Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire guide , where we will show you how to get the most out of this new and gigantic classic role-playing adventure created by Obsidian so that your hunt for the god Eothas comes to fruition.

Tips to start playing

  • Try to create a well balanced group capable of covering all possible roles. This will not only give you a lot of versatility during the fights and will allow you to design all kinds of strategies, but it will also open up many more possibilities when it comes to exploring and interacting both with the environment and with other characters.
  • Although your first impulse to get the ship will be to explore unknown islands, we recommend that, at least for a few more hours, you focus on the main story and the secondary missions. Deadfire is full of dangers, so it is advisable to prepare first by leveling up and improving our ship, something that we will do easily and naturally just by following the plot.
  • Multiclasses are one of the biggest novelties of this installment, allowing us to enjoy skills from two different classes. This offers many advantages and makes our characters considerably more versatile, although they are much more difficult to master and their progression is considerably slower than that of a specialized hero. Therefore, if you are very new to the genre, we recommend that you leave this function for a second game, since multi-classes are designed for advanced players.
  • Throughout the adventure we will find a huge number of different situations that we can solve in a multitude of ways. Whether using the force, our diplomatic skills or our stealth skills, we will always receive experience, so do not become obsessed with combat. Here you will level up regardless of your play style and you will always be rewarded.
  • It may sound obvious, but we recommend playing Pillars of Eternitybefore making the leap to this sequel , since this way you can import your game and see reflected all the decisions you make in the first adventure.
  • Never attack like crazy. The fighting in this game is highly tactical, so throwing your characters on the offensive without further strategy tends to end quite badly. Try to position them properly and use their skills to control the combat terrain and punish your opponents with devastating damage by combining spells and techniques with good synergies.
  • Naval combat is the least fun of the whole adventure, although it is advisable that you do not run away from them when you see yourself with a chance of victory, since they usually reward us with valuable resources, improvements for the ship and even new members for our crew.
  • Boarding ships is better than sinking them, as the rewards are usually higher, although we only recommend this if you have a powerful group and a large crew. If we do this, we will not be able to flee and the battles that take place are really massive and even chaotic, so it is usually a very risky maneuver that you should leave for the more advanced bars.
  • One of the unwritten golden rules of the game would be ” if you don’t see it clearly, don’t risk it.” Enemies are very tough and one wrong step could lead us headlong into battles in which we have almost nothing to do. The same can be said for decisions to be made during narrative conversational adventure events.
