Basic tips and tricks to start playing

  • Try to have a batch of Personas that allows you to access all possible types of attacks and resistancesto adapt to the needs of each battle.
  • In combat, if you attack an enemy with an element that is weak, you will win an extra turn and you will stun him, although if you repeat on the same opponent you will not win another one, so try to change the objective to get all the actions additional possible. This will also allow us to enter into negotiations with the Shadows and unleash our All-Out Attack.
  • When you go to negotiate with an enemy, look at his personality to intuit the type of answers you must give himto accept you.
  • There are many activities to do every day, but depending on the weather and the day of the week, there are some that may have additional effects or that enhance the social ability that we seek to increase much more, so try to try all the activities of the gameto learn when to dedicate your time to each one and thus optimize your schedule.
  • Do not neglect your relationships with the other charactersand spend as much time as you can with them, as this will raise the level of friendship with them and obtain all kinds of advantages, both in and out of combat. Also, thanks to this, your People fusions will be much more powerful.
  • Spend some time exploring the Mementosand completing the side quests that take place there. Its rewards are really juicy, both at the experience and monetary level, which will help you to always be at the level of the dungeons of history.
  • In Palaces, remember to use covers and move between them to catch enemies from behind. This will cause you to ambush, so you will have the entire first turn to act at will and, if you take advantage of the weakness system, end the fight before they can counterattack.
  • Before launching yourself at an enemy, test their strength with Third Eye’s ability. If it appears in red, you may prefer to avoid battling it, since that means that its level is significantly above ours.
  • We have a time limit to complete the Palaces and we will probably need to invest several days to finish them, so give it priority so that you do not miss the deadline. Go loaded with objects to be able to explore everything possible and make the most of your raids.
  • One of the first skills that we will unlock with most of our combat companions by raising our friendship level with them will be Relay. Thanks to it we will be able to pass our extra turns to others who also have this ability, something that will also make their next action much more powerful than normal, so well exploited it can allow us to perform devastating combos.
  • In the Velvet Room, remember to register your Personas before merging them, so you can buy them again with the same level and abilities they had whenever you want.
  • Social skills are important, as they will allow us to access more activities, content and Confidants, so do not neglect them.
  • Periodically visit all the book and magazine stores that you can, since reading them gives us all kinds of advantages, such as increasing our social skills, permanently enhancing the effects of certain activities and discovering places to meet our friends.

Confidants

Confidants are those characters with whom we can make friends to acquire new skills, advantages and services . To do this, we will simply have to stay with them so that our bonds increase, and each one of them represents one of the different Arcana to which the People can belong.

Of course, we will not always be able to meet them, so the best way to check who is available each day is usually to open the map and look for the areas marked with a blue card , select them and press Square to see who wants to stay in that location .

ADVERTISING

Here it should be noted that we can accelerate the process of strengthening our friendship with other characters if we have People who correspond to their Arcana , as well as inviting our Confidants to special places to meet. In addition, the latter can also offer unique rewards if we take someone specific to the right place.

The different Confidants, ordered by Arcanas, are the following:

  • Fool (Igor): The first rank will be obtained by history automatically on 4/12 and it will go up as we progress through it.
  • Magician (Morgana): The first rank will be obtained by history automatically on 4/15 and it will go up as we progress through it.
  • Priestess (Makoto): We will be able to start our relationship with this Confidant from 6/24.
  • Empress (Haru): We will be able to start our relationship with this Confidant from 2/11.
  • Emperor (Yusuke): We will be able to start our relationship with this Confidant from 6/18.
  • Hierophant (Sojiro): We will be able to start our relationship with this Confidant from 24/4.
  • Lovers (Ann): We will get the first rank on 4/15, although we won’t be able to start our relationship with this Confidant until 5/6.
  • Chariot (Ryuji): We will obtain the first rank on 4/12, although we will not be able to start our relationship with this Confidant until 4/19.
  • Justice (Goro A): We will get the first rank on 6/10 and it will go up as we progress through the story.
  • Hermit (Futaba): We will get the first rank on 8/31, although we won’t be able to start our relationship with this Confidant until 9/2.

  • Devil (Ichiko): We can start our relationship with this Confidant from 6/25.
  • Tower (Shinya): We will be able to start our relationship with this Confidant from 5/9.
  • Star (Hifumi): We will be able to begin our relationship with this Confidant from 6/26.
  • Moon (Yuuki Mishima): We will get the first rank on 5/6.
  • Sun (Toranosuke): We will be able to begin our relationship with this Confidant from 6/5.
  • Judgment (Sae): We will get the first rank on July 9 and our friendship will automatically go up as we progress through the story.

Social attributes

Our main character has five special attributes that represent his different social skills and the ability he has to solve certain situations of everyday life, so that depending on the level we have of each of them we can do some things or others.

One of the reasons why they are so important is because they will allow us to access new Confidants , since some will require us to have a certain level in a specific attribute in order to befriend them.

To upload them there are a multitude of different activities and tasks , such as reading books, watching movies, answering correctly in class, getting good grades, studying, participating in different mini-games and a long etcetera. Sometimes we will even earn points on a specific attribute for spending time with certain Confidants.

The five social attributes in question are:

  • Knowledge (wisdom): Studying and answering correctly in class is the best way to raise this attribute. Certain books and movies can also raise this attribute for us.
  • Charm (charm): Getting good grades and going to the spa on Mondays and Thursdays (especially when it rains) will give us many points in this attribute.
  • Guts (guts): Participating in food challenges, watching movies and reading books is a good method of raising this attribute. They will also give us some Guts points for participating in many activities focused on other attributes, such as studying in the library when there are many people.
  • Kindness: Movies and books are best for this attribute.
  • Proficiency: Spending time playing the hitting minigame and crafting thief tools at night is a great way to raise this attribute.

Velvet Room

The Velvet Room is one of the most important places that we will visit throughout the adventure, since we will have to frequent it to manage our People . Here we will find different services related to them, being able, for example, to merge them to create more powerful ones.

Of course, as it happens when we try to recruit one in combat, we can only create People who have a level equal to or lower than that of our protagonist , so that, for example, if we are level 25 we cannot create a Person level 30 although we have the necessary combination for it.

The services and possibilities that we will find here are the following:

Create New Personas (Executions)

  • Persona Fusion (Guillotine): Here we will have three different options. On the one hand we can try to manually choose the two People that we want to merge to discover their results (Normal Fusion), while on the other we will also have the possibility of merging choosing from a list that shows all the possible results with the People we have (Fuse by Result).
  • Finally, we also have the so-called Advanced Fusion, a type of fusion that will allow us to obtain a series of predetermined special People, although to obtain this result we will need three specific People
  • Note that in the three options, if the resulting Persona is compatible with the skills of those who are sacrificed, they can inherit them, something that will give us greater versatility in battle. The number of abilities they can inherit is limited and varies from Person to Person, so think carefully about which ones you want to transfer.
  • Strengthen Persona: Here we can level up the Personas we want. We will simply have to choose a Person as a base and sacrifice another to be converted into experience. Obviously the latter will be lost, so be sure to register it first.

Register / Summon Personas (Inmate Registry)

  • Register People: This option will allow us to register the People we have with the same level and the skills they have at that time. This will allow us to buy them later with these characteristics.
  • Summon People: This would be something like the People “store”, so we can buy, in exchange for yen, all the People that we have acquired at least once throughout the adventure. In general, they are sold with their default attributes and abilities, although if we register them they will have the same level and abilities that they had at the time of registration. Of course, if we do the latter, the cost also goes up.

Fighting

As usual in the series, the combat system of Persona 5 is developed again in turns . Every time a character has to act, he will perform his action, and we will have as much time as we want to decide what we want them to do.

The most important thing that we have to take into account when fighting is the system of elemental resistances and weaknesses that the game has. Almost all enemies and our protagonists are resistant and weak to certain specific elements, so if a Shadow is weak to electricity and we attack with an electric movement, we will do much more damage than normal.

In addition to this extra damage, doing this will also give us an additional turn , something that we can take advantage of to attack again, either the same enemy or another. If we attack another opponent with an element that is weak we will win another extra turn, although if we repeat on it we will not obtain it, so try to avoid attacking an enemy that is already stunned.

If we stun all the enemies we can perform a Hold Up! , so this will be at our mercy. This will open up two options: execute a powerful All-Out Attack , an offensive move in which the entire group participates, or negotiate .

If we choose the latter, they will let us decide if we want to try to recruit them to become part of the Characters of our protagonist, ask them for money in exchange for sparing their lives or do the same but requesting an object instead of yen.

The first option will lead us to have to answer a series of questions and if our answers satisfy the Person in question, they will join us. The correct answers will not always be the same and will depend on the personality of the enemy we are trying to recruit.

Everything related to the system of abilities and weaknesses also applies to us , so try not to bring characters who are weak to certain elements into combat to prevent enemies from getting extra turns. Also note that another method to get additional actions is to land critical hits, as they will also stun.

Another thing that we have to be very careful with during battles are altered states, which will harm us considerably if we do not treat them in time . In addition to paralyzing us, taking away SP (the resource we will need to do magic), taking life and other niceties, it will also make us vulnerable to a Technical , which will multiply the damage we receive.

For example, if they freeze us and then hit us with a physical attack, the damage will be much greater than if we were not, so treating them as soon as possible will be one of our highest priorities. Obviously, this is something that also applies to the enemy, so you can develop advanced tactics with this in mind to kill them sooner and more safely.

Another aspect to keep in mind is that depending on the Confidants with whom we raise friendship, we will gain a series of advantages or others during battles , such as gaining more experience after each battle, obtaining new combat strategies such as being able to change the active characters for others reserve, carry out relays when we win extra turns or have a teammate make a continuation attack when we did not stun an opponent, so that our options during the combats will be expanded as we strengthen ties with other characters.

Persons

People are the physical manifestation of human personalities and hearts , a kind of supernatural alter ego that, when invoked, allows its user to display great power.

As you can imagine, they represent a very important part of the gameplay of this title, as they will level up, improve their attributes and learn new skills , which will make our characters more and more powerful.

All the members of our group have a single Person, so their progress and evolution is linked to that of it , although our protagonist works in a very different way, since he has the power of the Wild Card .

Unlike the rest, our main character can recruit different People to use them in battle , being able to change from one to another once per turn, giving us access to very different powers and characteristics, which makes him the most versatile and important character. of the whole game. In fact, if he dies, the game is over, so it is advisable to have him well trained and with good People to avoid upset.

Each Person is resistant and weak to specific elements , being able in some cases even to absorb the damage to heal itself or cancel it directly, which is why it is so important to have a good repertoire of these creatures (space is limited) under our belt, since that this will allow us to adapt to any type of enemy that comes our way in order to avoid exploiting our weaknesses.

In addition to leveling up and the fusions made in the Velvet Room, another method for our Person to learn skills lies in using a series of special cards that teach techniques, thus being able to control much better the customization and evolution of our characters.

Note that there are two types of active skills, physical (melee and ranged with firearms) and magic (all elements) . The former consume part of our life, while the latter use SP, something to take into account when managing our resources so as not to be sold out at the most inopportune moment.

Online features

Although Persona 5 is a game focused exclusively on the single player experience, Atlus has included a number of small online features that help to slightly improve the game by creating an interesting sense of community.

The main and most common we have it in the possibility of checking which have been the most popular activities that other players have done each day of the week , so that we can see which have been the Confidants with whom most of the people spent each day and what kind of activities were the most played. To see this, simply press the touch panel of the remote control when we move through the city.

On the other hand, we can do something similar when we are asked a question in class , being able to see the percentage of players who chose each question, something that usually gives us a good indication of which is the correct one so that we do not fail (and considering that there are many that are about very specific details of Japanese culture, you will probably appreciate it).

In the combats we will also enjoy certain advantages for playing connected, since if the enemies manage to kidnap one of our characters and use him as a hostage, we can skip the negotiation by calling other players to automatically rescue him. Of course, we can only do this three times a day.

In the same way, we can also do the same when an enemy desperately tries to escape from the battlefield , being able to summon the community to cut off the exit route.

Mementos

Mementos is a special dungeon that we can access for the first time after completing the first of the Palaces . Unlike the latter, here we will find an underground maze made up of numerous floors that are generated randomly every time we enter, so we will always have to be looking for the exit exploring its corridors.

This dungeon has several areas, although these will be unlocked little by little as we progress through the story , and one of its great attractions lies in the fact that we can always travel here to fight when we want or need it, either to go up level, get yen, recruit People, and so on.

In addition, it is the place where we will have to complete all the secondary missions of the game, baptized as Requests . In them, they will send us to look for a special Shadow stronger than usual. Thanks to the general map we will be able to know in which areas our objectives are located, although they will not indicate the specific floor until we are there, something that Morgana will be in charge of communicating.

You will get the Requests in the real world and sometimes require prior research, and according to our experience the best you can do to optimize the days is to wait to accumulate several missions of this type before traveling to this place.

Another important difference with respect to the Palaces is that here we will travel in a vehicle , so it will not be necessary to use infiltration techniques of any kind and we will be able to go against the enemies head on if we want to.

Of course, be very careful about staying in the same floor for a long time, since that will attract the Reaper , a very powerful and lethal enemy that you can only face when you have a very high level, so if you receive the message that it has appeared in the floor you are in, try to quickly find the exit.

Palaces

The Palaces are the dungeons in which the main story of the game takes place and they will only be available for a limited time once we unlock them, since we will have to overcome them before the deadline that is imposed on us. Our objective is none other than to reach the end to secure the route to the treasure that we have to steal, go out into the real world, send a card to the victim of our robbery and return inside to face the final boss of the shift. Once we defeat it, the dungeon will disappear forever and we will not be able to return to it.

The most important thing to keep in mind when moving through them is that we have to try to move forward without being detected by the enemies , since every time they see us they will raise the alarm level and if it reaches 100 they will expel us of the Palace, so we will lose a valuable day of progress. To reduce this marker, it will simply be enough to carry out ambushes.

The enemies will detect us, mainly, when we enter their range of vision , although if we run we will also attract their attention, so their thing is to catch them off guard from behind. To facilitate this, we will have a coverage system, which will allow us to move from one to another at high speed to pass without being seen (just press X when we point to one with the camera). In addition, from one of these positions, if we have an enemy close enough we can jump for him and start an ambush, which will give us an advantage in battle and will prevent the alert level from rising.

It should also be taken into account that each Palace is different and has its own traps , which can also increase the level of alert, such as security cameras or laser sensors.

We have another important detail in that we will have great mobility through them , being able to jump holes and climb through different sites, although all these are preset, so we can only perform these actions if they indicate it to us with an X. If you get stuck, a A quick way to check which elements of the stage allow interaction is to press L1 to activate the Third Eye , which will highlight all the places with which we can interact.

In these dungeons we cannot save whenever we want, something that we can only do in the safe areas that we unlock . The good thing about these save points is that they also act as fast travel points, something that will save us long kicks in the case of having to leave the Palace to return another day, so try to go as far as you can each time to shorten way ahead of the next raids.

Finally, in addition to the normal chests, there are also some with padlocks that require lock picks that you will have to create yourself in the Thief Tools menu , which is available by interacting with the desk in your room.
