Parts of the cello

Sounding board

It is also known as the cello body . It consists of a lower cover, an upper cover and a strip, the latter is a piece of wood that is what joins the lower and upper covers, thus generating the hollow box.

Head

This is the top part that forms the cello. In this section are the headstock, the volutta, the pegs and the capo.

Harmonic bar

It is the part of the cello that serves as structural reinforcement, in the same way it is in charge of controlling and distributing the sound, where it transmits the sounds to the lid. This bar is located inside the body or sound box, right next to the bass strings.

soul

It is a wooden rod in a transverse position that is responsible for joining the two strings of the cello through the area of the sharp strings. This is responsible for balancing and changing the responses of the strings.

Efes

These are two holes that have the upper cover located on each side in relation to the strings, where the sound comes out.

Mast

It is also known as a neck. This part is the one that is attached to the body.

Pegbox

It is in this place where the pegs are inserted, which are the ones that hold the strings and at the same time control their tension.

Pegs

Part that is used to tune or jump the strings.

Frame

Part made of ebony wood that is attached to the frame and has a transverse shape and a curvature in its upper part. At the same time, under the string Do has a flat surface. This is where a bass string vibration is achieved.

Tailpiece

Located under the bridge, responsible for fastening the strings and tuning the cello. In this are the keys or micro-tuner.

Pica

It is a steel point or metal stake that works as a mediator between the ground and the instrument, that is, it is nailed to the ground, thus helping to hold the cello.

Ropes

It is four strings in total, which are named according to their pitch: the first string is the the second re , the third sun and the latter do .

Arc

It is the element that is used to play the cello, which is shown as a wooden stick with bristles that tighten on it, the latter made with acrylic imitations and horsehair. This bow is made up of a rod, a head and the bristles.

Scroll

It is the piece in the shape of a snail, made of wood which is sometimes used to place a fine diffuser shade on it, and thus turn the headstock into a lamp.

Capo

This is the one that marks the beginning of the handle.

Diapason

Located on the headstock, which is shown as a fretless hardwood plate, on which the strings are stepped on to achieve different notes.

Bridge

Piece of wood located in the upper area of the cello, on which the strings rest. This is attached to the lid by the pressure that the strings exert on it. This prevents the fingerboard and strings from being along the neck, thanks to the curvature that it has at the top.
