Panic attacks or Ghosts exist!

Nothing boded trouble, but the coronavirus that suddenly appeared in the world made its contribution to our plans and way of life.

An entrepreneur addressed a request: anxiety and panic attacks.

The client, let’s call him Ilya, controls every moment in his life and this world situation severely crippled him. The first symptom was growing weakness, pressure surges and dizziness, which eventually led to the first panic attack that happened in a public place, it came to calling an ambulance.

Further, the situation began to develop according to the classic scenario: numerous examinations and medications led to an even greater increase in somatic symptoms and an increase in anxiety.

The client came to me in a completely deplorable state, practically could not sleep, and the first couple of sessions we spent on preparation, relaxation and dispelling fears before work, then it went like clockwork. I will never tire of repeating that therapy begins with trust, if a relationship of trust is not built, there can be no talk of a complete therapy.

The biggest fear at the time was the fear of losing control. With the permission of the client, I drove him to horror, forcing him: now you will disconnect and lose control. This caused a strong emotional response and we used this charge to regress into the past: 3 … 2 … 1 – you are in an earlier situation associated with this sensation.

The feeling led to a situation of difficult separation 15 years ago, entering into which, very unpleasant thoughts began to come, provoking abreaction – the release of a disease-causing emotion.

After spending several sessions on relaxation, the client found sleep and calmness, anxiety decreased, panic attacks tried to start, but were suppressed in the bud. The next regression brought us to school years, where a fight took place, which did not develop in favor of Ilya. The emotion manifested itself, but did not come out completely, it was decided to activate it with the help of sympathetic breathing. Repetition of regression into a fight, sympathetic breathing, but the fear that there are more opponents in number prevents. I enlarged the student to the size of a man and retribution began, after which tears shed. Ilya is avenged, it became easier and the panic attacks stopped.

But there was a side effect: ringing in the ears and constant pressing pain in the head. Fears and panic disappeared, along with this, insomnia worsened, ringing in the ears turned into an unpleasant squeak, which provoked intensification of the pressing headache. After unsuccessful attempts to defuse this tension, they took a course for rest and recovery; after several sleepless nights, Ilya’s resources were not enough for serious work.

After a week’s rest, the condition became stable and the only thing that aroused concern among the client was traveling by car to one of the CIS countries. Ilya’s youth fell on the dashing 90s, the coronavirus pandemic and the Karabakh conflict stirred up old memories.

Therapist: Imagine that you left and are already driving along the roads of another country. What is the most unpleasant thought about?

Client: The car will break down and the bandits will rob me. They will injure and take away everything, including the car.

T: You are there and it happens. How does the body react?

K: Everything shrank, there is a huge lump in the stomach!

T: Give it shape, color, volume. He leaves the body and stands in front of you, what does he look like?

K: Like a TV … I remember! As a child, my grandfather constantly watched programs about bandits and murders. I remembered this program … Tears are flowing … Five are beating up the young guy and taking away the car. This is terrible…

The abreaction was long enough and after that the modeling of frightening situations no longer led to stress, and the condition improved significantly.

We were assigned to do a test: to ride in picturesque places for 5-6 hours and observe the physical condition. Everything was going fine, but when Ilya entered the house, he felt a sudden strong fatigue and a familiar internal shaking, as at the beginning of panic attacks.

The shaking reached 4 out of 10, where 10 is a panic attack and thoughts appeared: what if I get so tired on the road and have to spend the night on the track.
