the beginning

Norah Jones is the daughter of the Indian citarist Ravi Shankar (1920-2012), who abandoned her with her mother when she was a child. At the age of four he went to live with his mother in the city of Grapevine, near Dallas (capital of the state of Texas ), where he lived until he was twenty. He studied music all his life. He has been singing and playing the piano since his teens. In 1999, at age 20, he traveled to New York for a short vacation, but he stayed to live. He played in bars and restaurants, and sometimes on the street. In 2002 he recorded his first album, Come Away With Me.(from the record company Blue Note), in which she showed her skills as a songwriter and arranger. Not only did Norah Jones write the impressive title track “Come Away With Me”, she is also the author of “Nightingale” and a co-writer of “The long day is over.”

In the music’s world

Hank Williams’ song “Cold, Cold Heart” Norah Jones adds a sophisticated Western air with a hint of swing, completely transforming John D. Loudermilk’s blues ballad “Turn Me On”; in the latter case, thanking Nina Simona , thanks to whose recording Norah learned this song. Come Away With Me combines elements of jazz , soul , country music and folk-pop; together they produce a warm and spontaneous mix that eliminates musical boundaries. No doubt this album will excite fans of Sade, Charlie Rich and Nick Drake alike.

On this album Norah Jones, who has a first-rate team, sings and plays the piano and a Wurlitzer electric piano. His group includes double bassist Lee Alexander, drummer Dan Rieser, and guitarists Jesse Harris and Adam Levy, all of them New York musicians. They are some of the musicians Norah has been playing live with since the fall of 2000.

His special guests on Come Away With Me are, among others, Bill Frisell (guitar), Kevin Breit (guitar), Brian Blade (drums), Jenny Scheinman (violin), Rob Burger (accordion), Sam Yahel (Hammond B-organ) 3) and Kenny Wollesen (drums). The album’s proper and measured production is being produced by Arif Mardin, a veteran of now-classic productions and arrangements by the likes of Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, Laura Nyro, Roberta Flack and Willie Nelson, to name just a few. . Norah and sound engineer Jay Newland produced “Don’t Know Why” and “Turn Me On,” with additional production tweaks by Arif. Craig Street is the original producer of three songs (“Seven Years,” “Feelin ‘The Same Way” and “The Long Day Is Over”), with additional tweaks by Jay and Norah.

Two years after the release of her debut album, Come Away with Me , Norah Jones is back with a terrific collection of new songs. On this album Feels Like Home , the singer-pianist-songwriter is once again teaming up with producer Arif Mardin, sound engineer Jay Newland and her regular live band. She offers us a set of songs composed by her, the members of her group and by the singer and songwriter Richard Julian. Jones also covers several songs including “Be here to love me” (by Townes Van Zandt) and “Melancholia” (by Duke Ellington), a song for which she wrote the lyrics and renamed it “Don’t miss you at all ».

Not Too Late , released in 2006, is Norah Jones’ third studio album. The New York singer, with 45 million copies sold of her first two works, hopes to repeat the same success with this work, in which a special DVD with video clips and extras is included in its deluxe edition. The first track taken from the album is “Thinking about you”, the first of the thirteen unreleased tracks that make up the album.
