Biographical synthesis

Janis Joplin, was born on 19 January as as 1943 in Port Arthur , Texas , where he began his studies. He began his career at the University of Texas, where he collaborated with a band called “Waller Creek Boys”, in which blues and rock were mixed. At that time his addiction to alcohol was already worrying.

Drug addiction

In 1963 Janis Joplin went to San Francisco , where she sang in small-time nightspots. There she became addicted to amphetamines and her friends brought her home two years later.

Musical trajectory

Disc proposal

In 1966 he returned to San Francisco and joined the band “Big Brother And The Holding Company”. They became well known in the city. Janis Joplin’s prestige grew, and they came to play at the ‘Monterrey Pop Festival’, which earned them a major record label noticing them and proposing to publish an album.

Soon they released an album, the band’s second, which became a great success: ‘Cheap Thrills’. In 1968 Janis Joplin left the group due to discrepancies with the rest of the members. Success did not sit well with them.

Create new group

In 1969 , Janis Joplin took a step forward creating a group called Janis and the Joplianaires , alongside ‘Big Brother’ Sam Andrew and a handful of fine musicians. Later they would change the name of the band by that of Kozmic Blues Band .

New album without success

With the ‘Kozmic Blues Band’ he recorded a new album: ‘I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again, Mama! ‘, Which was coldly received by the public. Also, the live concerts were a disaster. Despite the fact that the album showed the poor condition of Janis, a victim of her excessive alcohol consumption, the album had some good interpretation of the vocalist.

Posthumously

Posthumously, the last album I was working on was released, ‘Pearl’, which featured collaborations from Kris Kristofferson and Bobby McGee, as well as a renewed “Kozmic Blues Band”.
