Neurofeedback: Does It Really Work?

The non-linear dynamic neurofeedback , using NeurOptimal® Zengar® technology, it is certainly to be the most scientifically cutting-edge software. It makes use of the discoveries of the last century in the fields of computer science, mathematics, physics and neuroscience.

Unlike previous EEG biofeedback systems , which focused on standardized brain models, this innovative system optimizes the brain performance of each individual brain. It evaluates its subjective and peculiar characteristics allowing it to function by exploiting its potential to the maximum with the aim of reducing the state of suffering.

It has been shown that the brain, in addition to self-repairing and self-regulating, is plastic. That is, it is capable of reorganizing itself on the basis of learning by improving the ability to manage the somatic systems.

Who does neurofeedback work for?

As already mentioned, the non-linear dynamic system of this type of neurofeedback leads to a progressive improvement of the potential of each person, whatever the starting point.

It works for many disorders of the anxiety spectrum such as insomnia , tension headache and tachycardia . But also for behavioral disorders or attention and concentration difficulties. It has proved useful in psychosomatic disorders , both at the gastrointestinal and dermatological level as well as in the field of addictions .

Below, for each disorder on which neurofeedback works , the various percentages of effectiveness indicated by statistical studies of the University of Victoria in Canada are reported.

Dynamic neurofeedback efficacy data

Sleep disturbances, effective in 83% of cases. Migraine, 87% positive results. Tachycardia, 72%. Gastrointestinal disorders (aerophagia, burning, gastroesophageal reflux, diarrhea, indigestion ..) percentage of efficacy achieved 80%.

As for some behavioral disorders such as ADHD and aggression, for example, the results are respectively 83% in ADHD (but without the side effects of drugs) and 86% of cases for aggression, anger and impulsivity.

Even in a particularly “difficult” disorder such as Tinnitus (tinnitus) it shows positive results 50% of the time, a figure not reached by any treatment to date.

Finally, to conclude this brief and incomplete excursus on the effects, it is important to point out positive results at 80% in addictions and 78.3% in peak performances, i.e. the optimization of sports but also artistic or work performances.

But does neurofeedback work for everything?

The training with the dynamic neurofeedback absolutely does not want itself as a panacea for all ills. Based on the improvement of brain functions and the central nervous system and not on the pathology, it facilitates a better functioning of the whole body. Just like muscle training improves overall performance. It therefore detaches itself from a linear Western vision, a search for specific causes, moving towards a more integrated, holistic vision of psycho-biological functioning.

Finally, in the most “resistant” cases, training with dynamic neurofeedback works very well in association with a psychotherapeutic path, especially if it is cognitive-behavioral .

Are there any contraindications or side effects of neurofeedback?

To date, the available data indicate that anyone can benefit from the help provided by dynamic non-linear neurofeedback. There are no exclusion criteria with respect to age, psychophysical condition or the presence of any pathologies, except for severe hearing loss.

The training has no side effects and is absolutely not invasive as it does not impose anything on the central nervous system. It facilitates the correct processing of information by the brain through feedback (feedback information). This is not an “electrical stimulation”, but a signal that is sent to the brain by auditory way through a micro interruption of listening to music.

The dynamic non-linear neurofeedback NeurOptimal® is not a medical device and is not in any way invasive. Sometimes after the first sessions some people report a decline in improvement (if it had already been achieved) or a slight intensification of symptoms, reactions that disappear as training continues.

Why does nonlinear dynamic neurofeedback work?

In conclusion, we can say that training with non-linear dynamic neurofeedback works because it allows the reorganization and self-regulation of brain wave patterns. It informs the brain and central nervous system about its functioning in real time through acoustic feedback. Thus allowing him to correct dysfunctional or oversized patterns of the patterns that contribute to symptom expression.

The acoustic feedback provided by this tool helps the brain stay alert and aware of its functioning in the present moment. The result is the possibility of self-regulation and distancing from the pathological attractors constituted by certain types of waves without having to go through the evocation of painful memories.

In fact, Neurofeedback is not a verbal therapy and does not involve having to relive the traumas of the past in order to no longer feel the negative effects.
