The navigator

In 2002 a group of teachers from the Higher Pedagogical Institutes in Cuba created the “El Navegante” collection, which includes different educational softwares for the work of both students and teachers in deepening the different subjects taught in grades 7th, 8th. and 9th.

Softwares that make up the collection

• GeoClío:

In this software the contents that are covered in the 8th program appear. degrees related to “Modern and Contemporary History”, distributed in 12 subtopics and 60 epigraphs. It is characterized by the integration of diverse knowledge of Geography , Arts , Literature and History . From the texts an ideological approach of historical personalities is fostered: Fidel Castro , José Martí, VI Lenin, Che Guevara, among others, who present their criteria and interpretations of historical processes and transcendental struggles of the Modern and Contemporary Era. It presents 6 modules: Contents, Exercises, Games, Library, Results and Teacher. A total of 178 exercises are provided with the same amount of reflective feedback, 4 games: Parcheesi, Discover the image, Crosswords and Locate and learn. Inside the Library there are 624 words with 250 illustrated meanings, 227 photos and 25 videos with their comments, in addition to 17 Power Point presentations.. The teacher has access to 15 bibliographic updating topics. It provides computer services for searching, printing, copying texts and images to other applications. Because it is an open system, it allows updating the questions and games bases.

• On the trails of my homeland: History of Cuba

This software corresponds to the 9th Cuban History course . degree. In it are integrated the contents referring to the History of Cuba, Literature, Geography of Cuba, Musical Education, Artistic and Civic Appreciation, with a historical focus, so that students can understand the process of emergence and development of the Cuban nationality and nation in all its aspects. It presents 6 modules: Contents, Exercises, Games, Library, Results and Teacher. In Contents, 4 major topics, 59 subtopics, 53 epigraphs and 224 hyperlinks are addressed. 237 exercises are presented with 194 reflective feedbacks and 3 games: Discover the image, Parcheesi and Crosswords. In the Library module you can find 200 words, 105 illustrated meanings, 176 photos and 19 commented videos, in addition to 19 musical themes and 30 maps of Cuba. 12 update topics appear that can be consulted by teachers. It provides computer services for searching, printing, copying texts and images to other applications. Because it is an open system, it allows updating the questions and games bases.

• Rainbow:

This software corresponds to the English subject that is taught in the three grades of Basic Secondary Education . It works on the basis of three basic concepts: “Vocabulary”, ” Grammar”And“ Communicative functions ”, which are integrated to achieve both oral and written communication. These topics are divided in turn into 59 subtopics with 53 epigraphs and 2,234 hyperlinks. It features 452 exercises with the same amount of thoughtful feedback and 5 games: Wordsearch, Parcheesi, Crossword, Karaoke and Discover the Image. In the Library 1256 words with their meanings appear, with 410 of them illustrated, 301 photos and 18 commented videos. 18 update themes appear for teachers. It provides computer services for searching, printing, copying texts and images to other applications. Because it is an open system, it allows updating the questions and games bases.

• The fabulous world of words:

This product corresponds to the subject Spanish and Literature of Basic Secondary Education. For their study, 5 themes were organized according to the communicative approach: “Comprehension”, “Grammar”, ” Spelling”,“ Construction ”and“ Reading ”divided in turn into 108 subtopics with 154 epigraphs and 2,234 hyperlinks. Within the Exercises module there are a total of 1644 exercises with 802 reflective feedbacks, in addition to 59 texts to put 1012 tildes, among them the algorithmic syntactic analysis for the 8th levels stands out. and 9th. It has 6 games: Parcheesi, Riddles. Spelling letters, Complete and win, Crosswords and Discover the picture. In the Library 525 words with their meanings appear, of which 214 are illustrated, 50 photos and 11 annotated videos, 28 extra-teaching assignments, 10 tutors and 38 curiosities. 19 update themes appear for teachers. It provides computer services for searching, printing, copying texts and images to other applications.

• Encounter with the past:

This software corresponds to the subject Ancient and Medieval History that is taught in 7th. degree. It deals with the analysis of the evolution that the teaching of the different historical epochs is having. It has 6 modules: Contents, Exercises, Games, Library, Results and Teacher. Within the content you can find 2 major themes: “Ancient History” and “Medieval History”, 10 subtopics, 70 epigraphs and 115 hyperlinks. It has a total of 211 exercises with the same amount of reflective feedback and 4 games: Discover the image, Parcheesi, Clio and Encesta and learn. In the Library there are 221 words with 13 illustrated meanings, 252 photos and 20 videos, all with an associated comment. Teachers have access to three bibliographic updating topics, as well as providing search, printing, copy texts and images to other computer applications. Because it is an open system, it allows updating the questions and games bases.

• Learn by building:

The content corresponds to the curriculum of the Labor Education subject9th degree, also includes the topics of: Build with paper, plastic and mechanisms, which are considered necessary as they broaden the conception of the subject and offer a solution to the lack of technical means in teaching workshops. Aspects related to the construction process of articles, their representation, work planning and execution of technological operations are shown, where different materials, instruments, tools and devices are used. The contents are grouped into two major themes: “Workshops” and “Basic Drawing”, divided in turn into 13 subtopics and 64 epigraphs. It offers 364 exercises with 194 reflective feedbacks and 5 games: Parcheesi, Crosswords, Discover the Image, Click Pic, and SuperBrain. 535 words with their meanings appear in the Library, 271 of them illustrated, 362 photos and 30 commented videos, 15 tutors. 15 update topics appear for teachers. It provides computer services for searching, printing, copying texts and images to other applications. Because it is an open system, it allows updating the questions and games bases.

• Mathematical elements:

This software develops Mathematics content corresponding to the three grades of Basic Secondary Education, grouped into 4 major themes: “Statistics”, “Arithmetic”, “Algebra”, “Geometry”. Statistics is identified with the processing of numerical data and its interpretation, Arithmetic with the meaning of numbers, signed numbers and the domain of rational numbers, Algebra with the language of variables, equality, proportionality, function and equation as well as Geometrywith the world of flat figures, equality and proportions in figures, circumference and circle, bodies and their magnitudes. The product provides 1,138 exercises with 2,500 reflective feedbacks and 3 games: Parcheesi, Crosswords and Puzzles. The Library has 300 defined words, 83 photos and 11 commented videos, in addition to 25 animations and 38 tutors. 13 update topics appear for teachers and provides computer services for searching, printing and copying texts and images to other applications. It allows updating the question and game bases as it is an open system.

• EducArte:

Corresponds to the Artistic Education subject taught in the three grades of Basic Secondary Education. It presents 6 themes: “Artistic manifestations”, “Sound language”, “Visual language”, “Theater”, “Dance” and “Cinema”, divided into 15 subtopics with 28 epigraphs. It features 313 exercises with 180 reflective feedbacks and 4 games: Hidden Text, Letter Soup, Board Game, and Acrostic. Inside the Library there are 300 words with their meanings, 280 of them illustrated, there are also 289 photos and 94 annotated videos and 101 hearing aids. 20 update topics appear for teachers. It provides computer services for searching, printing, copying texts and images to other applications. Because it is an open system, it allows updating the questions and games bases.

• Nature and man:

Addresses the contents of the subjects Biology , Physics , Chemistryand Geography, which are taught in the three grades of Basic Secondary Education, grouped into 3 major themes that are divided into 98 subtopics with 184 epigraphs. It is aimed at the study of the objects, phenomena and processes of nature with an integrative approach to the knowledge system, it enables students to form a dialectical and scientific conception of the universe and the role that corresponds to man in the conservation and transformation of nature. It has 238 exercises with the same amount of reflective feedback. In the Library there are 839 words with their meanings, 1,124 photos and 28 annotated videos, 70 animations and 16 virtual laboratories. For the teacher there are 12 bibliographic updating topics. Provides computer services for searching, printing, copy texts and images to other applications. Because it is an open system, it allows updating the questions and games bases.

• Basic Computing:

This software addresses the content of Computing7th. and 8th. degrees. It presents 5 themes: “Computing Advances”, “Operating System”, “Word Processors”, “Web Pages” and “Multimedia Presentations”, which are divided into 14 subtopics and 94 epigraphs. It has a total of 138 exercises with the same amount of thoughtful feedback and 5 games: Discover the Image, Mouse Trainer, Keyboard Trainer, Crosswords and Parcheesi. In the Library there are 343 words, 166 of them with illustrated meanings, 207 photos and 17 annotated videos and 54 tutors. 23 update topics appear for teachers. It has computer services for searching, printing, copying texts and images to other applications. As an open system it makes it possible to update the bases of questions and games.

Preconditions for its use

• The software products to be used must be installed.
• The teacher must know the structure of the level or product collection in particular and the possibilities it offers to students and teachers.
• It must be specified if the software has the necessary information: selection of texts and images and their possible transfer to a document. This is guaranteed in collections.
• Know how to work with supporting applications: Paint, Word, PowerPoint.
