My Hero One’s Justice review

The manganime series My Hero Academia has been recreated by Bandai Namco in the form of one of its great specialties: fighting games. We show you the analysis of the combats that My Hero One’s Justice offers us.

One of the great specialties of Bandai Namco is fighting games , we all know that. Not in vain and after delighting us with the remarkable Soul Calibur VI , a few days after the launch of this work, another production with similar characteristics is ready: My Hero One’s Justice .

In this case, instead of being an IP of the Japanese company, as almost all of you know, this 3D fighting arcade is based on the fashionable manganime saga My Hero Academia . A series that puts characters endowed with special powers called Quirks into the fray and, as always, both heroes and villains are seen in it, characters that have been recruited mostly to be part of the cast of fighters that we find in the game.

It is important to note that one of the main game modes, History , allows us to follow the events that take place during the second season of the original series and part of the third. Obviously I’m not going to reveal absolutely anything that is revealed during these levels, but without a doubt the story is followed with some interest … although it is being revealed through conversations and little else. A little more ambition is missing in that regard. Of course, at least and in my opinion it is not necessary to know said saga to enjoy its argument, although of course those who are followers of it will have an advantage and will be able to better understand the background of the characters, etc.

Become a hero. My Hero One’s Justice Launch Trailer

You fight with helpThe gameplay offered by this fighting arcade is completely 3D. In fact, one of the most striking aspects of My Hero One’s Justice that separates it from the usual in this type of titles is precisely the size that some sets show, imitating in a way the style of play integrated in one of my most beloved sagas of this same idiosyncrasy: Naruto UNS.

Deku, Tomura, All Might, Shota Aizawa and other characters from the My Hero Academia series are part of the cast of 20 eligible characters in this 3D fighting arcade.

Characters can freely navigate settings such as the Forest of the Beast, the main UA building, the Gran Torino residence, and many other locations. And while the battles are taking place, it is possible to destroy numerous objects and constructions that are part of these scenarios, an aspect that gives a certain dynamism (and, also, spectacularity) to the confrontations although it does not have any impact on the gameplay.

This roster is made up of 20 protagonists , although the arrival of new types has already been confirmed (as in all current fighting games) through DLC download packages. Izuku Midoriya (Deku), Kyoka Jiro, Himiko Toga, Muscular, Shoto Todoroki, of course All Might and other guys are present, making up a fairly large squad. Characters that show and practice clearly differentiated fighting styles and that, in addition, it is possible to personalize through objects and accessories that we can acquire with in-game money.

One of the most striking aspects is the size shown by some decorationsThe control system of My Hero One’s Justice is quite simple to master, since it allows us to make both melee and ranged attacks and chain combos without too much effort. Even the special attacks called Quirks are also performed very easily. It is noted that the developers have taken into account both the childish and the more “casual” public, being one of those fighting arcades that can be fully enjoyed even by those first-time users in these conflicts.

The pace at which the battles take place is frenetic, and you can also enjoy very spectacular attacks and combos.

To add more bite to battles and add an extra layer of depth to battles, Byking has added a couple of very important elements. On the one hand, it is possible to unleash the fearsome Plus Ultra attacks as long as we have enough energy in the turn meter. But more important are the two help characters non-controllable (but eligible) that we can turn to in certain battles to give us a hand during them, thus integrating a tactical touch to the fighting that is very appreciated.

The development of the confrontations is quite fluid and, on many occasions, we contemplate extremely striking and colorful battles. They are perfect? Well unfortunately not. For starters, in my opinion the end result of each fight relies too heavily on the use of Plus Ultra attacks. The jumping theme doesn’t really convince me either , since characters stay in the air for too long (even when recoveries from the ground). And as you might already suspect, if this happens in the middle of a combo, the air juggles that can be made can destroy a large part of the life bar of the victim on duty. Defects that end up affecting the gameplay in a sensible way.

The sound section is very good, highlighting the original Japanese dubbing (with Spanish subtitles).

As for the game modes of My Hero One’s Justice , these are not too surprising. There are those that have to be, that is, the traditional History, Versus (online and offline), Arcade, Missions, Training and little else. An offer not particularly generous or, as I have already mentioned, not surprising, but despite that it can give of itself to keep us entertained for many weeks.

What does stand out a lot is everything related to its aesthetic and sound appearance. The fidelity with which the characters have been reproduced is incredible, and the animations of all of them have seemed more than remarkable. But the best thing is to see them unleash their Plus Ultra attacks, as damaging as they are showy. And in terms of sound, the Japanese dubbing is exceptional (with Spanish subtitles ) as well as the impressive range of sound effects that can be heard during each match.

“Interesting”

My Hero One’s Justice

The My Hero Academia series has been moved by Bandai Namco to current systems in the form of arcade fighting 3D gameplay. Its offer of fighters is quite suggestive, it is possible to fight in a wide range of locations well known to fans of the original manganime and the fidelity that the entire title keeps with the original work is plausible. It may have several major playable flaws and its fighting system suffers from the depth embodied in cutting-edge titles like the recent Soul Calibur VI, but it’s still an interesting title.

  • Good character representation, 20 in total (for now)
  • Great fidelity to the original saga and remarkable audiovisual section
  • The control system is quite affordable …
  • … but it lacks a bit more depth
  • We miss more game modes
  • Certain playable inconsistencies and imbalances
