What is gasoline?
Gasoline, also known as gasoline in some countries, is a clear petroleum-based fluid that is widely used in the world today as fuel in internal combustion, such as in cars and aircraft. The substance is composed of different organic compounds and is acquired through the fractional distillation of crude oil or petroleum. What is the weight of gasoline?
As previously stated, there are many additives that are added to the final product of the petrol after the crude oil has been fractionally distilled in a refinery. Higher density gasoline has a higher content of aromatic substances, mostly chemical compounds derived from benzene. Gasoline floats on water, which means that water has a higher density than gasoline. If the two compounds are put together in a container, the gasoline will float, as the two do not mix and because gasoline is lighter.
The weight of a gallon of fuel commonly used, like that of petrol, is six pounds. To put this in context with water, a liter of water weighs about 8.4 pounds. It is important to be careful around this highly volatile compound if you use fire around it. Since the water is denser, water should not be used to extinguish a fire caused by gasoline.
