The management and design of lighting must meet specific objectives in any audiovisual project.Because light must be much more than more or less complex lighting techniques . Choosing the light and dark areas of a shot, determining its composition and directing the viewer’s attention to elements, gestures and actions, is the end of artistic lighting framed in an expressive staging.
Thus, the main objectives of lighting will be:
- Ensuring the highest possible quality of the image to be captured.
- Guaranteeing uniformity in the distribution of light, understood as continuity, especially in multi-camera realizations, especially conflictive at this point.
- In technical terms, lightingis what makes it possible for image sensors to capture the different elements of a composition, since its absence disables this function.
- The lightingmust achieve an adequate impact to the characters, either from a physical point of view, so that they are visible, as well as from a psychological point of view, transmitting light to the emotional or mental state of a character.
- The lightingmust be consistent and coherent with the general setting of the shot, unless in a particular moment, for the narrative development, an antagonistic effect of the light is sought.
- Guarantee the viewer’s attention to the essential or most important points of the action and the narrative development, without perverting the ultimate meaning of the general setting.
- In the production process of an audiovisual project, lightingmust ensure that it does not produce or trigger problems or unwanted technical effects (shine, moiré , …)
- From an artistic and / or expressive point of view, light must support the construction of a suitable setting, suggesting different atmospheres.
- The lightingmust always comply with two readings of the composition: the denotative reading and the connotative reading. it must ensure the viewing of the action and must transmit the evocation of new hidden content in the narrative subtext
