Learning and Memorizing Prayers Before Sleeping and After Waking Up

As a Muslim child, it would be natural if when he wanted to sleep, the child was reminded by his parents, ” If you sleep, don’t forget to read the prayer first, okay?

Maybe this message looks short and trivial. Certainly, these parents must teach their children good and useful things, from getting out of bed to going back to sleep again. One of them is to teach the child to read prayer before going to sleep and after waking up.

Learning and memorizing prayers before and after waking up, enter the category of prayer that is important for us to learn and memorize. Because our sleep can become worship if we do it according to the guidance given by the prophet Muhammad.

Prayer Before Sleeping

On this occasion, we will learn and memorize prayers before going to sleep and after waking up. His name is learning, it can be easy – easy or difficult, or even vice versa, the important thing is we try our best, and can practice this prayer every day when we want to sleep and wake up.

For the first, we will try to learn to read and memorize prayers before going to sleep. Following the prayer:

بِسْمِكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ اَحْيَا وَ بِسْمِكَ اَمُوْتُ

Bismika Allaahumma ahyaa wa bismika amuut

Meaning:

“By saying your asthma O Allah, I live and by calling your asthma O Allah I die”

For those who can read hijaiyah letters, surely little by little can read one sentence of prayer above, in full. For those who haven’t, maybe you can read the Latin letters first.

After slowly reading, try to be repeated several times until memorized. Hopefully every day, when going to bed can read it continuously, until you can memorize and practice it.

Prayer After Wake Up

In the future, we will learn to read and memorize prayers after waking up. Next is the prayer read:

اَلْحَمْدُ ؚللهِ الَّذِىْ اَحْيَانَا بَعْدَمَآ اَمَاتَنَا وَاِلَيْهِ النُّشُوْرُ

Thank God lillaahil ladzii ahyaanaa ba’da ma amaatana wa ilaihin nusyuur

Meaning:

“All praise is due only to Allah who brought us to life after shutting us down (sleeping) and only to Him will we be resurrected”

For this second prayer, or prayer after waking up, we can learn it and memorize it like a prayer before going to sleep above. Do not forget after memorizing his prayer, it also means that we increasingly know that only Allah has the right to turn on and off us as His creatures.

Hopefully by praying before going to sleep and after waking up, our sleep will be calmer, more useful, and also counted as worship.
