Biographical synthesis
Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt did not have a common childhood, since from the age of 6 he devoted himself to acting. His first appearances took place in various television movies and series.
the beginning
His debut film was a minor role in the film Beethoven, one of the family (1992). In 1994, he played the role of a huterita boy in the comedy Wife by inheritance and starred in Angels , a hit Disney film.
At the end of the 90s he appeared in several films, with a relevant role in films such as Coercion of a jury (1996), Sweet Jane (1998), Halloween H20 (1998) and Ten reasons to hate you (1999).
acting career
In Gordon’s adolescent stage, his roles matured, as did he. He starred in Manic (2001), with Don Cheadle ; the beautiful story of Latter Days (2003) and the haunting Mysterious Skin (2004), from writer / director Gregg Araki.
As he grew, Gordon was putting the television projects aside to direct his professional career towards the cinema. In a matter of no time, he appeared in Havoc (2005), Shadowboxer (2005), The Lookout (2007), Absent (2008) and Miracle at Saint Anna (2008), Spike Lee’s drama set in World War II .
Between 2000 and 2004, he completely quit his job to study French history, literature and poetry at the Faculty of General Studies at Columbia University . He learned to speak French fluently. One of his biggest hobbies is playing the guitar . Among his favorite actors are Gena Rowlands and Warren Oates and among the films, Dumbo (1941) and Fraud (1973).
In 2009 he entered an unconventional romantic comedy about a woman who does not believe in true love, entitled Five Hundred Days Together . His sensitive and tender performance earned him a 2010 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor (Musical or Comedy).
Joseph Gordon-Levitt starred in the award-winning 500 Days Together , opposite Zooey Deschanel . He earned a Golden Globe, Independent Spirit, and People’s Choice Award nomination for his work on the film, which marked Marc Webb’s directorial debut.
He also starred alongside Rainn Wilson and Natalie Portman in the independent drama Hesher , which premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Other titles include a Seth Rogan comedy , co-starring Anna Kendrick and Bryce Dallas Howard ; and the action thriller Premium Rush , directed by David Koepp, who also co-wrote the script.
His wide variety of titles include director Stephen Sommers’ action hit GI Joe ; the controversial drama Stop-Loss, co-starring Ryan Phillippe under the direction of Kimberly Peirce; and the crime drama The Lookout, which marked Scott Frank’s film directorial debut .
Additionally, Gordon-Levitt has received international critical acclaim for his performance in independent titles such as John Madden’s Killsho t with Diane Lane and Mickey Rourke ; Shadowboxer by Lee Daniels; and Rian Johnson’s award-winning feature film debut , Brick .
His last role is that of Arthur in the movie Inception , alongside Leonardo Dicaprio .
He worked on The Dark Knight Rises , the sequel to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight ; in this way he returns to work hand in hand with Christopher Nolan and with his Inception partner , Tom Hardy (who in that film will play Bane).
Awards
Early in his career, Gordon-Levitt won the Young Artist Award for her first major role in the drama of Robert Redford , The river of life . He then co-starred in Angels in the Outfield , Jury Duress , H20, and Ten Reasons to Hate You .
Gordon-Levitt is also known to small screen audiences for his starring role in the award-winning NBC comic series Martian Things . During its sixth season on the series, it won two YoungStar Awards and shared three nominations for Best Comedy Series Cast from the Actors Guild Award.
Other works
Behind the scenes, he has made his directorial debut with the short film Sparks , starring Carla Gugino and Eric Stoltz . The film, which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Competition, was the first official production of the hitRECord.org label, a website created as a meeting point for actors, producers and directors in order to perfect the work of its members.
hitRECord had a strong presence at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and Southest Film Festivals, where they built facilities that offered sponsors the opportunity to experience endless creative possibilities first-hand.
